Bored. And boring.

Re: Bored. And boring.

  • If I went somewhere in a dress, anyone who knows me would accuse me of being an impostor.   I have yet to find a dress I actually like.

  • Yay for internet, Steffi! I remember seeing you posting about trying to survive without it. Drama, sorry, I just saw your post asking about my dad. I'll be brief since I don't want to bring the convo down, but he's really having a hard time. My mom is pretty sure he's depressed, which is scary since I've literally never heard him complain or seen him down. He's not wanting to eat or drink anything either. I'm hoping I can help when I get in on Friday.

J, have you ever considered buying a good quality one and taking it into a tailor? I know swimsuit fabric is different, but I wonder if that would make a difference.
  • I think I got my cami's at Loft and they don't have a shelf in them.

  • I actually like shelf bras but I have tiny boobs. So there's that.

Poli, I'm sorry your dad isn't doing so well. I am sure he will be okay. He sounds like a very strong person. *hugs*

[QUOTE]J - I'm determined that it doesn't exist unless you buy separates. And even then its still a ice cubes chance in hell.

I don't even mean the top being too big.  I mean the bottoms being too big.  All the ones that actually fit (read: don't bunch, sag, or fall off) only cover about half my ass.  Just because I want to wear a swimsuit, or, gasp, a bikini, does not mean I want to flash half my ass to the world.  TAKE NOTE, SWIMSUIT DESIGNERS.

And anything that DOES cover my ass is super high cut and frumpy looking.  MAKE CUTE BOTTOMS WITH FULL BUTT COVERAGE PLEASE.

I'll play whatever.  I need some distractions!

  • I'm here J, but I have to dash in just a minute. I'd do superlatives on my breaks coming up! Thanks midge. I really appreciate everyone checking in about it. I don't want to seem like I'm posting about it 24/7, but it really does help being able to talk with you ladies.
  • Teacher rant:

Ohio colleges and universities churn out LOTS of teachers. In Ohio, you also have to get your master's degree within five years of being hired in a school district. Many programs now make you go for your bachelor's and master's back to back, racking up buckets of debt.

Like a lot of other states, districts across the state are making major budget cutbacks. They've been doing this for years, even before the economic downturn. Ohio is losing population, so there are fewer students to teach, less money to teach them, and an overabundance of teachers.

There is no possible way for even half of the yearly graduates from teacher programs to get a full-time teaching job within the state. It isn't going to happen. I think it's a joke to keep graduating more and more teachers when there's no hope of them getting jobs in their field.

Also, I think it's ridiculous when a college or university graduates someone from a particular program who has either not mastered the necessary skills or has certain characteristics making he or she completely unsuitable in the chosen career.

Case in point: BIL spent nearly $30K between a community college and a for-profit technical school to get his phlebotomy certification. There is no way anyone would hire him in that field. Even if he was hired, he wouldn't last long. He has mild-to-moderate mental retardation and does not have a handle on his personal hygeine. As such, he often reeks (you can smell him from quite a distance) of cigarette smoke, body odor, and cat urine. No one in their right mind is going to let him come near them with a needle. Plus, he's afraid of blood. Since he can't find a job in his field, he has simply chosen to not pay back his loans. (Yes, he's being garnished.)

I understand why colleges let students go through those programs. I don't expect them to change. I just think it would have been nice if someone somewhere along the way said to BIL, "This really isn't the right field for you. Let's consider something else," or to H's cousin, "You need to master at least your basic English skills before you leave this program."

  • Get yourself a swim dress, Eags.

Also, when I go to the water park, I feel fabulous about myself. I have never and will never be the most ridiculous looking person in attendance.

  • Special, KY has way too many teachers who can't find teaching jobs as well. Cases in point, me, my cousin's wife and about half the people I graduated with.

<div>What kind of teacher? Georgia is in serious need of math and science teachers. There are some schools that don't even have them. The kids just learn from videos and shiiiit. </div>

What!? What if they don't understand and have a question about something? That can't really be a good method. Those poor kids.

  • Special, I agree 100% with your rant.  I do think our teacher ed programs need to do a better job of educating people on the climate of education right now.  It's not a pretty place to be and I think it's one of those callings - something where you can't imagine what else you'd do because there is no other job for you.  It is absolutely, 100% the right fit for me, but it's not for everyone and it kills me how people seem to think it's the Disneyland of jobs.  Dude, it's not all fun and games and summer's off.
  • I'm jealous, Rach.  I'm still holding out hope that we'll get to leave at three like everyone else.

  • Video teachers?  Wow, that's awful.

I think some states have an overabundance of teachers and others don't have enough.  People need to be willing to move, but most aren't.  We were *thisclose* to doing a cross country move to NC when I got my job here.
