Re: Evening Eeners

  • Is this the same brother from last night who didn't want to watch your TV shows? Also, sorry about the arm Musu.

You husband and brother were fighting over FB chat? What in the world were they arguing about?
    image
  • Yep, same brother. Apparently they started the argument talking about the Vikings stadium (the bill to build it just got passed), and somehow that derailed into my brother telling J that he doesn't think we are good with our finances, etc. That did NOT go over well with J. He was so upset, that I know if he had been here, he would've punched him in the face.
    image
  • What my brother said was a diick thing to say, since he has absolutely NO idea what he is actually talking about. We aren't the best people with finances, to be sure. But I think he assumes that because I'm living at home for these past two weeks, that obviously we did a piss poor job this semester allocating money. When really he has no idea what it is even like to pay a bill (He's 17).

I thought you were living at home these couple of weeks because it's closer to the school and you've been dealing with finals.
    image
  • Yeah that is kind of the point that J was trying to echo back to him, that he has NO idea what he is talking about. J has paid every single one of any of his bills (including cell phone, health insurance, car insurance, etc) since he was 16 years old and had to work for the first 3 years of school to afford to go. My brother thought that since we are now living off of student loans and don't work, that this = irresponsible. He kind of has his head up his ass sometimes.

J takes way more offense to it than I do, because I know my brother and I know when he's being a clueless teenager.

</div><div>Yeah but the only reason that it being closer really matters is for gas $$. Because of a few unexpected bills (health related), we were running short on our loans much earlier than normal --- and since they are loans, they don't replenish like a paycheck. So until we get our financial aid for summer classes, we have to be REALLY careful, and my parents are loaning us some money to pay bills until we can pay them back. </div><div>
</div><div>ETA: gas $$ and eating at my parents since its free. </div>

I'm not going to lie. I could never live off student loans like that. But, you two have a plan and seem to be working through it, so it's no one's business to tell you how and what to do with your finances. And clearly you both feel comfortable that you'll be able to repay them without difficulty so who is he to say anything about that.

Yes, because a 17-year old who lives at home is qualified to provide sound financial advice. I'm on Team J/Musu too. ;)

Angel - if you see this when you get back, I'm thinking of you. I hope everything turns out okay.
  • Musu, no matter how you slice it your brother shouldn't comment on your finances.  Ugh, that sucks being stuck between your brother and your husband.

  • I like your sig picture wrigley.

The person on my fb who annoys me the most with their updates is a guy who will update scores and plays during a big game along with trash talking. Like something every 5 minutes. It's ridiculous.

<div>I never thought I could either. For my undergrad, I worked part time to afford random bills & stuff. But I would have really suffered, grades wise, if I would've worked these past two years. I am going to try and work part time next year since it should be a more relaxed year of classes. And I know J's degree is really difficult as well and he USED to work 30-40 hrs per week during school and his grades suffered because of it. He is doing much better now. </div>
    image
  • I'm not going to get between them necessarily -- I mean clearly I agree with J. But when I came back inside, my brother asked if I was talking to J and when I said yes, he was like "I didn't think he was gonna get so mad." I think he was looking for me to assure him that it was ok, lol. He looks a little scared. I just shrugged and said "Its not my business"... I'm not gonna sit here and console him just because he pissed J off. I agree with J, but I'm not gonna stress myself out by arguing either.
    image
  • I do know that the next time J sees him -- he is going to get a very stern talking to. lol. My brother just doesn't know when to keep his sassy mouth shut.
    image
  • Sorry I took over the thread with my brothers idiocy. Carry on. ;)

Thanks! I get so irritated when 83 people post, "Snow! OMG it's snowing. WTF snow. Ugh, it's snowing," before noon.<div>

I worked while in college, but I still had student loans just to pay for part of school. So while I worked to live, I'm still paying money back to the government and SallieMae.

It was lame though, my school put a cap on institutional scholarship of $10,000. So while I was awarded $25,000 a year in scholarships from the school, I could only use $10,000. Outside grants and scholarships didn't cover the rest. I left with about $20,000 in loans. Which is actually nothing compared to other people I know who have graduated with upwards of $80k in loans.

  • Wrigley - I post about it snowing when I'm in Michigan but it's for all my FL peeps to see. It's different because I'm being a tourist.

I feel like I will have student loans forever. I'm also lucky and mine are not too much considering I went to a private school for undergrad and also owe some for grad school.

Yeah my monthly loan payment is not bad at all. I have a friend that has to pay each month what we pay in rent.

I mean I don't think it should be illegal, but I don't know if it was the best way to get the point accross about AP. I think it will make more people think its a crazy way to parent.

I knew a woman who did AP.  She breast fed each kid until the next was born.  There were a couple kids who were breastfed for 6 years.  And the family bed was ridic.  It was so full of kids her husband moved to his own room.

I don't even really enjoy the dogs sharing my bed, so I doubt my kids will be sharing it. And my H for sure will not be kicked out of it.

  • Yeah, I will have almost $200k in loans after I graduate. Thanks law school.
