Poll: Food vs. Drink

I was reading the thread from earlier today, about whether a full meal needs to be provided.  It made me wonder, which would you prefer - a full meal but limited/no bar, or snack-type food and open bar?

As for me, I'd prefer snacks and open bar, hands down.  I don't know if it's because I'm vegetarian so I am used to limited food options, but I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've cobbled together a meal of cheese, fruit, and crackers at an event.  I'll take the free drinks any day!

Re: Poll: Food vs. Drink

  • I voted for full meal but only because I don't drink much and wouldn't be upset if there was no alcohol.  I don't mind heavy apps at all, but if there's not enough food to fill me up, I will be sad.

  • I can't decide. I think it depends on my mood at the time.
  • Free drinks. Because I'm also a veghead, so again, cheese and crackers and sometimes salad are my mainstays. Besides, I'll spend less money picking up food after the wedding if I'm still hungry than I will on drinks (assuming it's a cash bar).

  • I can eat enough fruit, cheese, crackers, etc. to feel full enough to have a few drinks. They wouldn't have to be heavy apps for me, just enough of the lite stuff that I could still feel good enough to drink. When there's no alchohol, most dry weddings I've been to are still fun, but fizzle out early.

  • I guess If there were sufficient cheese and crackers and what not then I'd rather have the free drinks. Unless of course I'm freaking starving.
  • I'd rather have a full meal. I don't usually have more than a drink or two.
  • I'm forever making some kind of mash-up meal for myself, especially if I'm alone and not in the mood to cook for just me. I think I'd be quite happy to graze on appetizers and other munchies and have a drink in my hand. I don't eat huge meals anyway, and more often than not wedding meals go to waste on me since I'm typically full after the salad and some of the pasta.
  • I picked drinks and Mike picked food. It is pretty funny because Mike would never forget to eat his meal at a wedding whereas I am too busy talking to notice dinner is down on the table. I much prefer my wine and dancing ;) I am wondering if this gender split is common.
  • open bar, but just let me know if there isnt going to be much food there so i can stop by Chick Fil a and get something!! LOL My family is also drinkers so i guess I am just spoiled with an open bar

  • I voted open bar and snacks...but there needs to be a variety of snack items and more than enough to satisfy everyone.

  • I love food in general but apps are my favourite...I think as long as you serve enough food it doesn't have to be a full meal. I wouldn't want to go to wedding, full bar or not, that had very little food. It doesn't even have to be fancy, just not so little that people feel uncomfortable eating, if that makes any sense.
  • I voted for the open bar because let's be honest, the part of weddings I'm always most looking forward to is the dancing and I usually don't have a plate in my hand when I'm on the dance floor...
  • i'm in the minority but i don't drink, so i'd be kinda bummed if i had to make do with cheese and crackers just so other peeps could do a bunch of shots.
  • I don't need a full meal and am perfectly happy to much on a variety of hors d'oeuvres all night long (might even prefer it). But I don't think just cheese and crackers and a plate of fruit are sufficient. I wouldn't even serve that little for a party in my home, so I'd be really disappointed to find that at a wedding.
