Pullled pork recipes go here, please.

This will be a P&R for a while, because I'm going to make blueberry pancakes, but, I know some of you have yummy recipes.  We're going to do BBQ for Taryn's b-day party on SUN, and I've never actually made proper pulled pork.  Any good recipes out there (preferably Carolina-style; DH likes the vinegar based sauce)?

Thanks :)

  • I don't have a recipie on hand but I know my mom makes it in the crock pot which seems so much easier than a smoker. Maybe true bbq snobs could tell the difference, but I can't. It is really tasty.

I do my in a crock pot!

    Ingredients

    Brine:

    • 8 ounces or 3/4 cup molasses
    • 12 ounces pickling salt
    • 2 quarts bottled water
    • 6 to 8 pound Boston butt

    Rub:

    • 1 teaspoon whole cumin seed
    • 1 teaspoon whole fennel seed
    • 1 teaspoon whole coriander
    • 1 tablespoon chili powder
    • 1 tablespoon onion powder
    • 1 tablespoon paprika

    Directions

Combine molasses, pickling salt, and water in 6 quart Lexan. Add Boston butt making sure it is completely submerged in brine, cover, and let sit in refrigerator for a minimum of 8 hours. 12 hours is ideal.

Place cumin seed, fennel seed, and coriander in food grinder and grind fine. Transfer to a small mixing bowl and stir in chili powder, onion powder, and paprika.

Remove Boston butt from brine and pat dry.
Sift the rub evenly over the shoulder and then pat onto the meat making sure as much of the rub as possible adheres. Preheat smoker to 210 degrees F. Place butt in smoker and cook for 10 to12 hours, maintaining a temperature of 210 degrees F. Begin checking meat for doneness after 10 hours of cooking time. Use fork to check for doneness. Meat is done when it falls apart easily when pulling with a fork. Once done, remove from pot and set aside to rest for at least 1 hour. Pull meat apart with 2 forks!

  • Shoot, we've got a really awesome pulled beef recipe (I'm sure you can substitute for pork!) at home.  Where I won't be for another 8 hours.

But trust me, it's deeelish! :)
  • This is my recipe, it's always a huge hit.

    Carolina Barbecued Pork

    Ingredients:

    2 onions, quartered
    2 Tbs brown sugar
    1 Tbs paprika
    2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp pepper
1 4 to 6 lb boneless pork butt or shoulder roast
    2/3 cup cider vinegar
    4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp red pepper flakes
    1 1/2 tsp sugar
    1/2 tsp dry mustard
    1/2 tsp garlic salt
    1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
    Hamburger buns
    Cole Slaw (optional)

    Directions:

Place onions in stoneware. Combine brown sugar, paprika, salt and pepper rub over roast. Place roast over onions. Combine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, sugar, mustard, garlic salt and cayenne stir to mix well. Drizzle vinegar mixture over roast.
Cover cook on Low 10 to 12 hours or on High 5 to 6 hours. Remove meat and onions and drain. Chop or shred meat and chop onions. (I don't actually do that, I just stir it around in the crockpot and shred it up and leave all the juice and everything).  Serve meat and onions on buns. If desired, top sandwiches with coleslaw.

  • These all sound fantastic! I got lazy last time and slow cooked the meat in some root beer, then shredded and added bottled BBQ sauce for the last few hours. I'll definitely try one of these recipes for next time.
  • WE buy the Mccormic pulled pork season packet. Slow cook the pork and that for 8 hours on low in a crock pot. At the 7 hour point we add minced garlic. After 8 hours, drain the meat and Use two forks to pull pork apart. add sweet baby rays bbq sauce to taste and it is FANTASTIC. Best pulled pork Ive ever had. and easy

<div>Yep, I've only made it once and it was in the crock pot with just some bbq sauce.  Pampered Chef has a really good recipe in one of their cookbooks that my aunt makes and I just haven't made it yet, but it's a sweeter recipe with bbq sauce and molasses so that doesn't work for you Tide.  </div>

The one I use may not be Carolina style.  I'm not sure what that is but I love this recipe.

    Pulled Pork
1 boneless pork shoulder roast 3-4 pounds (I buy whole pork loin and then use half for the recipe)
1 and ¼ cup of ketchup
    ½ cup chopped celery
    ¼ cup chopped onion
    ¼ cup lemon juice
    2T Worcestershire sauce
    2T brown sugar
    1 ½ tsp ground mustard
    ½ tsp pepper

Place pork in the crock pot
    .

In a bowl combine the rest of the ingredients and then pour it over the pork.
Cook on low for at least 10 hours.  (I usually do 4 hours on high and then 4 on low)

Then pull apart the pork with two large forks and let cook for another 30-60 minutes to absorb more of the sauce.

  • I am totally stealing some of these recipes. I am thinking of doing BBQ pulled pork for H and I on New Year's Day.
  • I slow cook the crap out of a pork shoulder.  I used a 7 pound one and fed like SOOOOOOOOOO many people at our house warming party.  Cheapest party (food wise) I have ever thrown.  And it was a hit.

my buddy whom I call the marinade/meat king told me this is the best pulled pork  he's ever had.

I am pretty approximate when it comes to measurements

    -1-3 jalepenos diced
    -2 cups cider vinegar
-1/2 a cup or so brown sugar
    -1/8-1/4 cup of honey
    -worcestershire, couple tbsp?
    -can of diced tomatoes
    -diced onion
    -red wine
-frank's (since it's for kids, you'll probably want to omit this)

I cook it off for 30 minutes or so.  Cook the jalepeno and onion in a skillet with some oil first, then the wine, let the booze cook off and then add the rest of the ingredients.

  • This is more western NC than eastern NC, but here you go:

2-5 pound pork loin (or any other cut of meat you like that happens to be on sale)
    DRY RUB:
    1/4-1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt (do not over-salt, it will be gross)
    1 tablespoon chili powder
    1 tablespoon black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon celery salt
    1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

    SAUCE:
    1/2-1 1/4 cup vinegar
1/2-1 1/4 cup store-bought BBQ sauce (any kind)

Trim fat from the pork loin.

Mix all dry-rub ingredients in a bowl. Pat generously over the pork and discard any unused portion. Place the pork in a 6 qt slow cooker.

Mix equal parts vinegar and BBQ sauce in a bowl or measuring cup. Pour over the pork. Make sure all parts of the meat get some sauce, but it will probably only come up about halfway over the meat. That's ok. As it cooks, it will settle and everything will get saucy.

Cook on low for 8-10 hours. I do not recommend cooking on high for 4-5 hours because it tends to dry out the meat and scorch the sauce a bit.

Take two large forks and shred the meat while still in the crock pot. The meat should shred very easily. Make sure there is plenty of sauce all over the meat now.

Serve alone or on toasted buns with slaw and pickles.
