tell me about a time you failed at life.

And make me feel better for being 1 point away from passing the reading part of the Praxis.

  • *HUGS*

One time when I was figure skating competitively, at practice, I turned to jump and I went right out the door onto some college students.

  • That sucks aleigh :(

I took AP English in high school twice (Junior and Senior year) and I failed that AP test both times.
  • Awww I'm sorry Aleigh.  So does that mean you have to take it all over again?  I feel like I should know this, but I never had to take the Praxis.

  • Oh Aleigh, I am so sorry.
  • I once broke my toe and was knocked unconscious  and was then taken to the hospital by ambulance. All I was doing was giving someone a hug.

  • I know I'll have to take the reading part again. I passed the math part and I won't get the writing scores back for 2 weeks so I don't know if I'll have to take that again or not.

Baystate-that made me giggle a little
  • When you take it again you're going to ace it, Aleigh.  I know it.

I also failed my driver's test twice before I actually passed it.

Yeah, it makes me giggle, too.  Definitely my most embarrassing moment.

Seriously? How did you get your teaching certificate? Does NY have a different set of tests?
  • I'm so sorry. That's a huge bummer. It took me 3 tries to pass College Algebra.

Ditto that. Over really silly little things too but none the less, still failed.
  • You can do it, aleighk! We have confidence in you.

I really didn't think I was going to pass either, but I did. And I am horrible at standardized tests.

It took me 3 times to pass PRE Algebra. I win. ;-)

Got another one...when I was taking my written test to ge tmy drivers permit, I missed this question three times - and the lady behind the counter told me to change my answer b/c I obviously didn't understand the question.

"If a man is walking across the street with a white cane that has a red tip, what should you do?"

    a) slow down to 5 mph
    b) slow down to 15 mph
    c) stop
    d) steer around him

I kept choosing A. I didn't realize the guy was blind. Pathetic, eh?

ETA: Why I thought 5 mph was the right answer and not "stop" I have no clue. Moronic 15 year old, I guess.

    ETA AGAIN: I can't type, y'all.
  • The first time I took my driver's test, they wouldn't even let me finish.  I knocked down all the parallel parking cones while doing my K turn.  He told me to just very slowly proceed back to the building.  I cried the whole way.

ME TOO!!! This was going to be mine. I took algebra for the first time in 8th grade... and then had to keep taking it over and over through high school. I took it my first semester of college, failed, and then changed majors to the only one that didn't require me to pass algebra.

<div>Yeah NY has their own certification tests.  Apparently that's one of the resons why it's supposed to be one of the hardest states to get certified in.  Everyone has to take at least 3 cert tests.  2 of them are general teaching tests, and the third is a content specialty one in your specific subject.  I had to take 4 since I was dual ceritfied and had to take 2 content ones, 1 for each.  Not fun, and not cheap.</div>

Yep.  Me too.  I finally passed it with a D my senior year.  I couldn't graduate without it, so I really applied myself that year.  Note: Using the term "applied myself" very loosely here.

I had crutches my freshman year. We had a courtyard that was concrete, but was painted in a few areas. It rained one morning and I didn' think to go around the always slippery painted areas. Inbetween classes I definitely face planted when my crutches slipped on the painted area. I felt like a legend after that.
  • Thanks for making me feel better guys. When I get my writing scores back in a couple weeks, I'm going to register to take it again and hopefully I'll do better next time.

I just feel like a big ball of fail between failing my education class and failing the praxis. Boo.

    haha yes. CANE. and MPH.
  • Sorry, Aleigh. That sucks..

I failed Basic Religion (it was religious theory) in college. I was a United Methodist minister's granddaughter.
I passed Zen Buddhism at VCU that summer with a B+ (which of course translated into a C).

I took a corner too fast on J's "loan out" road bike, freaked out, hit the gravel, and flipped over the handlebars into the ditch. That was the only time I ended up with no scratches. All other falls were to the left and on my left knee.

I once sent a text message to a male friend of mine about how horribly a date was going (and it was about an "unsatisfying" time). It got sent to the date accidentally.
I told him I'd sent it to my mother.
Needless to say, I went ahead and left the hotel and headed home before he returned from duty.

This totally sounds like something I would do. I sprained my ankle really badly and had to use crutches for a week. I was chasing a boy and I tripped. FAIL. I think I was about 14.

This exactly!  I now have a degree which is useless and can't afford to go back to undergrad or grad school at this point to get a better one.  (it probably didn't help that I skipped class a lot b/c it was too expensive to park on campus)

  • A few years ago I worked as a hostess at a nice restaurant while taking classes.  One of my duties as hostess was to keep things neat--help clear tables, vacuum up in between lunch/dinner and so on.  I used the little plug in vacuum, went over the entire seating area of the restaurant and went to the manager b/c it was broken as nothing was getting picked up.  Turned out I hadn't turned the vacuum on.
