When does one register?

Hi Everyone,

I am gettng married in June 2012 and we did not have an engagement party and obviously if there were any pre-wedding parties they would not be until next Spring. When should FI and I register in case anyone wants to give a gift?

  • I think you can register any time you want. We also did not have an engagement party. We got engaged last August and started getting pressure last November to register. We didn't end up registering until January or February. I would say register when you feel the time is right because we had a blast doing it. Enjoy!
  • It might be a little early to register, because you may forget what you even need/want/put on there in a few months. we are getting married this september and registered last month.
fact is, people aren't going to spend money until they absolutely have to (ie last minute/close to the wedding) so no one is going to be wondering right NOW where you guys are registered. Look for venues/caterers/etc and really take your time to get the best deal and the best place since you have so much time to do so. Then worry about the scanner gun :)
(ps.. if you get registered at Macy's, do it on their "sip and scan" nights. you get free stuff like champagne toasting flutes and there's great apps to nibble on :) )

[QUOTE]I'd register within 4-6 months before your wedding.  At more than 6 months out you risk stock changing and may have to update a lot of things closer to the wedding anyways.

I agree with this. We registered in December for our wedding coming up this August and some items that we initally registered for are now unavailable from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Plus, we already live together, so we've bought some items for ourselves that we originally were going to register for.

If you register early (if you're having an engagement party or family has already started bugging you), just make sure that you check your registry closer to your shower and wedding dates to make sure that you remove and replace any items that have been discontinued by the store.
  • We were pressured to register after we got engaged. I'm getting married in May 2012. Let me tell you that nothing has been purchased.  But on the plus side, we registered at macys and got some nice coupons.
