NWR - nauseous.

Sorry - this might get graphic -

So - last week I drank about a 1/2 bottle of red wine after a long day and went to bed. I woke up about 3 hours later really sick feeling and thinking I was going to throw up. I couldn't ever "naturally" throw up, but at that point I figured it was the wine and I just needed to get rid of it so I made myself throw up - I've never done it before, but I stuck a finger down my throat and made it happen. I felt better kind of, but I kept feeling sick for 2 more days and stayed home from work. I needed to come back to work so I toughed it out starting last Friday.

I have had waves of nausea ever since. I've taken 3 pregnancy tests, all negative. I take a few kinds of medicine/vitamins every day - Cymbalta, BC, Fiber Pills, Biotin and a multi vitamin. I recently changed from One-a-Day to Wal-mart brand multi vitimins and from Metamucil to wal-mart brand fiber pills. I also went from taking the "hair, skin and nails" vitamin to the straight Biotin.

I would blame it on the new vitamins, but I didn't take them yesterday (forgot completely until I got home) and I was more nauseous yesterday and today than I have been.

I'm freaking out and I feel like crap. Any ideas to what could be going on?

  • I'm sorry you're not feeling well!

My only advice is the obvious advice: see a doctor.  It's probably nothing -- your body battling a stomach flu or other relatively innocuous bug? -- but for your own peace of mind and in the slim chance it's indicative of something a little more serious, make a doctor's appointment or perhaps try Urgent Care.  Medical advice via teh Internets is never a smart idea, if only because it can lead to underestimating or overestimating the significance of your symptoms.

  • How long have you been taking all those medications? Because if you've been taking those for a while and just now feeling bad, I wouldn't point the blame there.

Do you have any other symptoms, or just the nausea?

Ha, you're right! I just like hearing everyones thoughts on this - I've got a Dr's appt - but I've gotta wait til tomorrow when the boss lady comes back. =(
  • Pills can counteract each other.  I take Cymbalta, and it makes me nauseous sometimes.

Call your doctor.  It might just be the stomach flu in the end, but there's no harm in talking to a professional.  Good luck.

  • Make an appt go see your doctor. Probably need to get some Phenergan so you can stop vomiting and you don't get dehydrated. Drink your fluids!!

I would stop the vitamins for now till you get diagnosed. In my opinion it could be a few things. Stomach bug, which is big right about now. Or possibly your gall bladder. Either way you should get it checked out.

Tummy. =( I would think it's a bug or flu but FI feels fine, the kids I babysit every day are fine, no one I know has gotten sick. That's what's kinda freaking me out. I couldn't sleep last night thining I was pregnant, eventhough I had already taken 2 tests I had to buy another one this morning to be sure. My BC gives me weird periods. I'll have almost nothing, then a really heavy period. Last month was HEAVY and lasted longer than normal - this time it was a day and a half of spotting and nothing else.

Well there you go. No reason to have us all freak you out until you know what is going on. But since you're asking us, I would take the time to write down all the medications you're on and the doses, including the over the counter stuff and when you started taking them.

  • Ditto Texas.  If you can't keep anything down, get some Pedialyte.  It's gentler than Gatorade and hopefully will stay down in your stomach.

I've only thrown up that once and phenegran knocks me out so taking it and attempting to work isn't going to work out well - but it did work! I've got a Dr's appt tomorrow. It's just gonna be a rough day!

    Yup, yup, yup!

Skip the solids to for awhile. Stick with the broth. I'm more concerned with your hydration right now than nutrients.

No freak out! I'm sure I'm gonna live. My wonderful hair lady who told me to start taking the Biotin just sent me a text saying that Biotin made her nauseous. I wonder if that's it? Either way, doc appt tomorrow. Thank you for the advice =)
  • Depends on what the dosage of Biotin is. If it's HUGE (like 1000mg) that could be eating your tummy up. Did you change BC scripts lately? I know that I can't be on the pill because of being nauseous 24/7 ( I can't function like that). Good call PP's on lots of fluids, stay away from sugary drinks. If anything, water and green tea/peppermint tea are the way to go.

But some medications and vitamins can build up in your system and cause you to get sick. I would definitely recommend talking to your doctor, and mentioning everything you take on a daily basis.
  • Maybe there's an alien inside you?

  • I'm not a doctor and I'm glad you've already got an appt to see yours. Hopefully this is something simple that can be fixed quickly. PPs are right, the flu is already going around. I've got bottles of antibacterial hand sanitizer coming out of my ass right now at work.

But your story did make me think of something. A friend of mine had a similar situation a few years ago -- had some wine one night and then felt like hell for days after that. She found out that she was allergic to sulfates. Have you had this kind of problem before? Do you drink wine a lot?

Hmm..Sulfates eh? I drink wine every once in a while - not often, but this was a REALLY dry red - I actually didn't enjoy it, but I really wanted a glass of wine and it helped me get de-stressed. I've never had this happen before - but I'm miserable. I'm such a happy person and I haven't felt like myself in over week!

If you get a chance before your doc appt, Google the sulfate allergy. It's really interesting what all you can be sensitive to, if that's the case. And maybe if you think that might be it, you could at least mention it to your doc. If I remember right from my friend, they had to put a heart monitor on her or something at first. She was fine but they just wanted to see what was going on.
  • Hey I just found this wiki article that's kind of interesting... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_wine_headache
  • So uh, you're saying it's NOT an alien?  Unlikely?

I hope it's the alien lol. That'd be a way better story than a sulfate allergy!
