Should we???

A while back I heard some bad stuff about using Target to register. I didn't know if anyone knew anything about it or had any advice for me. We've already registered at Kohl's, but we'd like to register at Target too. Thank you Ladies!! :)

I've heard some negative comments about Target's return policy, which is why a lot of people were down on them for registries. Have you thought about registering at Bed Bath & Beyond? They have a great return policy and people can use the 20% off coupons in store to purchase items off your registry.

I did some research on this before ultimately deciding to go ahead and register. What I found is that there are two main problems with Target. The first is simple - their return policy can be a pain. The second problem is how they update their registry - the way they do it, it only updates once every 24 hours, so if two people go shopping on the same day they can feasibly buy you the same gift. While this would be annoying, we ultimately decided that it wasn't enough to keep us from registering there. They really have the most stuff and for convenience sake we just bit the bullet and did it.

Yeah, what I HATE about the Target registry is that you cannot return something without the gift receipt. At Bed Bath Beyond, you can, no problem. So I have a registry there but I put in the "note" section to anyone looking at it to make sure to get a gift receipt just in case of return (I know that is REALLY TACKY but I had to do it...). Anyway since Target is just really convenient for most ppl and carries a ton of stuff at good prices, I bit the bullet and registered there.

PS - I did not know they only update their registry once a DAY, how stupid!

Just to clarify, you can return at Target without the gift receipt (it is a bit of a pain, but you can) as long as the person actually scanned the registry sheet.  You can go to their registry kiosk and print a "gift register" which acts as a receipt for every item on your registry. We registered at Target and I don't necessarily have anything really bad to say about it.  We did get a duplicate crock pot, but it was no big deal (no receipt for either but printed out the register).  Oh and a glass photo frame that someone ordered online and had delivered to us was broken.  We had to print a receipt online to exchange that item.We also registered at BB&B, but for people who live in smaller towns, a Target is more easily accessible.  I also noticed that my younger friends and males chose Target over BB&B (idk why thats important, but just so you know)

We will register at Target. They have most of the things we need. We have lived together for almost 3 years so we don't really need a lot of "home" stuff. FYI- Babies R Us is a HUGE pain as a registry. You're supposed to get 10% off everything left on your registry after you have the baby. Well they base it on my due date and he came a month early and we still had to wait 4-6 weeks from my due date for the coupon to arrive. By then we had everything we needed for him off the registry. Their return policy is also very strict like Target's. I have had more fights with the customer service at Babies R Us than you will ever know...

The main disadvantage to Target is that if you return something, you typically have to get something else in the same department. So if you return something that would be considered a kitchen item, you have to get another kitchen item which is STUPID. I registered at BB&B - easy to use, easy return policy and lots of good coupons.

I've also heard bad things about targets return policy but we chose to register there anyway because I LOVE target and they have targets almost everywhere.

Ashley, my Mom found a way to get around that same department mumbo jumbo.  She said that if you switch out the item you're returning for something in the same department, you can bring back THAT item you just got and that they will give you a general store credit.  I'm not sure if that works for everyone but she's done it a couple of times.  Its worth a shot if you can't find something in the same department! (I think you'd just need to get a gift receipt maybe when you check out after getting the new item?)

We registered at Target. I had no problems, we got one duplicate gift but I was given the receipt, so I returned it and got a gift card to buy other stuff. Not a big deal.  I told everyone who shops there to include a gift receipt. I would def register there, for my shower that's where everyone bought off of, I think because its super easy (Target is everywhere!) and plus I love there things! Super cute! Our Crate and barrel registry was more popular at the wedding because everyone had bought everything off the Target one. HTH!

Good to know you can return stuff without the gift receipt, though we were told at Target very specifically that you could not.

I also never had the problem at Target with having to get something in the same department :-/  I took 3-4 things back and each time was given a Target gift card.  It seems like people at Target don't know what they are talking about...

Katherine--I imagine you are dealing with the Target in Kannapolis and they can be major pains! Drive to the Univeristy area one and there shouldn't be a problem! We returned a vacuum that we had already used, but it didn't work very well. It was on our registry, but it didn't show up that it had been bought on our registry purchase log, but they gave us store credit for it anyway! I think it all depends on who you deal with! But usually as long as it is on your purchase log, you shouldn't have a problem!!
