Hotel Info. included with invitations??

Hi everyone!

I have a friend that included a separate card with the invitation that said that they had reserved a block of rooms at a certain hotel for guests. I kind of like this idea since I will have several family members traveling, but I have family members with different incomes and I would hate to reserve rooms at a hotel that is too expensive or "cheap" to them. So, I would prefer to include a separate card with the invitation with the name of 2 or 3 hotels that would be close to the events and would offer a range of prices. I don't have a ton of family traveling here (would really only need about 5 rooms total maybe)...

So, is it against etiquette to include a separate card with something about reserving rooms at a hotel or the names of a few hotels that I suggest?

Also, which would be better- reserve 5 rooms at a certain hotel, or let them choose but just offer a few different suggestions?

Re: Hotel Info. included with invitations??

  • You can definitely include the information about several hotels in your invites.  In fact, your guests will probably really appreciate it.

As far as blocking rooms, its nice, but not necessary.  Especially if you find hotels that don't charge you to block rooms and/or make you guarantee a minimum number of rooms (and many if not most hotels in a lot of areas do not require any financial commitment from you to block rooms), there's also no reason you can't block at a couple of hotels.  Often, setting up a block may get your guests reduced rate, or if enough rooms are booked, other amenities like free breakfast (note that I didn't get either of these things due to a convention in town the weekend of my wedding, but others cite these as benefits often).
  • Including an accommodations card in your invites is a great idea. But, unless you are reserving 10+ rooms I don't think a hotel block is completely necessary. The idea is the hotel is giving you a special, discounted rate because you are reserving so many rooms. If you still want to include a block I would pick one hotel. If it's too expensive/cheap for your guests then I'm sure they can locate a different hotel that meets their needs.

  • It's great to have an insert in your invitations that has hotel information.  You can also put that information on your wedding website, if you have one.  If you're willing to do the legwork to pick out a few hotels at a range of price points, so much the better.
  • Thanks everyone for the great advice! I am getting ready to order invitations so I am trying to decide what I would like to include. I thought about including it on my wedding website, but I have already run into the problem that I created 2 websites (decided I liked a different one due to picture quality, etc.) and my mom accidentally gave some family members the "wrong one". I think it might just less confusing at this point to include pertinent info with the invitation if it doesn't cost me too much.

The hotel we are using for OOT guests provided us with custom made inserts for free for us to include with the invite.  You might want to inquire about that and save the money :)  This could also give you flexibility as to which hotel info you send to whom.
