How do i nicely remind ppl to RSVP?

The FI and i are on a tight budget for our wedding, and i need to know how many ppl to expect. Most of the ppl invited will likely not RSVP. Is there a nice way to remind them to do so? it would be very helpful to me if they did

  • Wait until a few days after your RSVP due date, then call the butts that didn't call. Let them know you need to have exact numbers in ti your caterer etc etc. Don't forget to be polite and courteous! :-)

  • Yep, I agree with PP.  There isn't really anything you can do until after your RSVP date.  Pretty much the RSVP by date on the RSVP card is all you can do.

  • Yes very true my wedding is not until june, however mine and my FI family's are the type that are likely not to RSVP and just show up. Plus worse they are the kind that will not only show up without letting us know, but will bring extra ppl not even thought of! Im sure im not the only person with this worry in mind!

  •  my MIL told me her family was like this and i made it VERY clear to her this would not be ok. she didn't want to be embarassed with her friends and family showing up and not having a seat so she made sure they rsvp'd. those that didn't were called a few days before our final count was due.

You definitely don't need to be worrying about RSVPs yet. :)

You still have months before your invitations will even need to go out. At this point, honestly, your wedding probably isn't on most of your potential guests' radars. They may not have any idea at this point if they'll be able to come or not (financial situations, work, personal issues etc. can change quite a lot between now and June.)

As PPs said, once your RSVP date passes, you can call everyone invited who didn't RSVP and obtain a final count from them. Don't let this worry you right now whatsoever.

  • Jenn, I too am not getting married till June next year, but for some reason I'm always worrying way ahead of time about things WR. I plan to do what pps suggested about calling the ppl that haven't rsvp'ed once the due date is up. Hopefully I won't have too many phone calls to make.

  • I've kinda had this idea of mailing out invitations that say something like,

"Mr. and Mrs. XYZ request the pleasure of your presence at the wedding of [my name] and [FH name] at [time, date] in Alexandria, Virginia.  Adult reception to follow"

This tells out of town guests where to travel.  Then after I received RSVPs I would send out postcards that say "Mr. and Mrs. XYZ are excited that you will attend the wedding of [my name] and [FH name] at [time, date] at [church, address].

What i'm thinking is that this allows me to not tell people where the wedding will actually be held until they RSVP so I won't have to worry about people showing up without an RSVP.  I know it is unusual to not provide a location on the invite (but send one out later on a post card) but I'm wondering if it is rude.

    hahahahahaha!

this reminds of an episode of 90210 when Andrea and Steve took an egg to a store to get the secret location of a party.

I personally would find it rude and strange.
