Weird things seen while traveling

1) In the Prague airport, I saw a headline saying that with the new drug laws, Czech Republic has one of the most lenient drug laws. I thought, "Hm, giving Amsterdam a run for their money, eh?"

2) Still in Prague airport, in a duty free shop, notice a special display of vodka.  Look closer, it is, in fact, Cannabis Vodka, complete with cannabis on the bottom.

3) While watching TV in our hotel room in Sweden, they showed video of a guy running a toy train into his nutsack.  His shaved, bare, nutsack.  It was disgusting.  And so weird.

Re: Weird things seen while traveling

  • So is Sweden populated solely by tall, leggy, good looking blondes, like I imagine?

  • Indeed it is.  I've never felt so inferior in my entire life.  It's tough.

    Cannabis is pot btw.
  • #3 is too funny! You'd have to pay good money to see that in the U.S. Maybe the guy was high/drunk on cannabis vodka.

When I lived in Germany, they would have random nudity in shows and commercials all throughout the day. Except it was most definitely not with shaved people. Quite the opposite actually.

  • I was in London while the 2004 summer olympics were happening. It was hysterical to watch the news there are hear their blunt British humor and their complete nonaversion to ragging on people. Here is America we are very careful what we say, but on the tv there they would literally be like, "wow, so and so really sucked today in the 100meter dash" or whatever. They also loved to rag on American's who lost and American celebrities in attendance. It was utterly fascinating.
  • Oh my.  Sounds like the Swedish version of Borat.
  • On the reverse side, I used to work at a summer campe with many British and Scottish employees on Cape Cod. They would always say how different America looked than they thought it would. Since we were located on the sea shore in a very picturesque location, I figured that it was probably just because they were in such a distinct setting. Then, one night we drove into Hyannis to a mall that is located on a busy road with many strip malls and fast food chains surrounding it. I will never forget the "aha!" tone in their voices as they exclaimed, "now THIS is America!!"
  • This is might be more common than I'm aware of, but when I was in Mexico a few years ago, I went to a public restroom in Cozumel (I think) and instead of a handle on the toilet to flush, there was a foot pedal, near the floor. I swear I stood there for like 10 minutes trying to figure out how to flush the gd toilet.

  • Yeah, Beatles, gratuitous nudity is something we have gotten used to.  It was just the full on nutsack that took me aback.

Meaghan the British are hysterical in their disregard for people.  We think Simon Cowell is one of a kind, but really, there's a whooooole nation of people just like him!
  • Hm, no foot pedal flushes here that I've seen.  There are foot pedals for turning the water on in the sink.  Last week when our friends were visiting (first time in Europe) she went to the bathroom and came out all shocked, "It was a nice bathroom, but there was no seat!" Tooootally normal here.
  • When I went to Italy about 5 years ago, none of the toilets in the public restrooms had seats, only rims.  And then there was the toilet in the floor, which was really fun trying to use.

I think I saw that in Prague too! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" /> And then I was told I couldn't take duty free items to the US. Um, what?

  • Ah huh... Yeah, I read that today.  I don't know why though.  Maybe the US doesn't approve of the Czech security?  Also, you can get a lot of stuff there that's illegal in the US too, so maybe that has something to do with it.
  • i think all public toilets should have foot pedals. amazing.
  • Yeah Sarah, Cozumel isn't one of the world's cleanest cities and I was pretty thankful for the foot pedal....after I found the damn thing.

  • Huh. I can't imagine that cannabis vodka actually works. THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) is fat-soluble. When you make pot brownies, you usually cook the pot in butter first, then add it to the brownies.
  • DH and I drove out to NC last year and saw, on our way through WV, a full sized replica of the sherriff's car from the Dukes of Hazzard cruising along the interstate. We chuckled, and kept on driving. Til we heard the horn from the General Lee and saw that following closely behind, with AT LEAST five or six more of each vehicle in a pack. Must have been some weird D of H car meet or something.
  • Hmm, good point Amoro.

A building at my college has toilets with foot pedals, which are quite handy.

  • Speaking of views of America, when I was in Germany, some Germans that I met were OBESSED with Route 66.  Like, on their trip to the US the next summer, they were going to rent a car so they could drive on it.  And then I had to explain why they couldn't get out of the car if they were pulled over.

Why can't they get out of the car? Is there an American rule about this that I've never heard of? Being Canadian, this is definitely possible, but I'm genuinely curious.
  • Thank you for the brownie recipe!  I wondered how to do that:)

The worst toilets in the world were in Egypt.  A hole in the floor, pee splattered everywhere and a bucket of water to splash your genitals clean with.  No I did not use the bucket.  Although I had to pay for the pleasure of using that bathroom.

Best toilets...Cannes.  Little green booths that close up and spray themselves down with antiseptic between uses.

And Amsterdam has these triangular things in the street that men can just walk up to and pull it out and pee.

I also loved Amsterdam TV...Bouncing Babes was my favorite commercial with topless girls jumping up and down on a bed.  Our hotel in Spain had full on porn.

You can also boil it in the oil you're going to use.  But I don't know anything about that.

The toilets I encountered in Ukraine were the same as Egypt only minus the wash-up bucket.  And let's just say a lot of Ukrainians have bad aim...and not just with splashing.

IDK if it's a law, but more that the police could potentially see them as threatening and shoot or taser them or whatever.  That's why you need to stay in the car with your hands on the wheel - so they don't think you're reaching for a weapon.

    Haha...thanks!

Yes Egypt was disgusting.  I literally threw away my Pumas that I had bought just before the trip.  I did not want them on my feet or in my suitcase.
