Tipping Question

Please help me on tipping ettiquette for the following people:

- Solo Guitarist - Independant solist already paid up front $350.00 for 2 hours of playing. Is it required to tip if he is not having to make a payout to some additional company? He has not been the easiest to work with....

- Photographer - friend who gave us a great rate. The final payment is due upon receipt of the pictures. Thinking of tipping once we receive the pictures and make final payment. Sound right?

- Food Delivery - Ordered large trays of food from restuarant. Pre-paid for food as well as a delivery charge. They are not doing and set up. I am planning on tipping them but 15% is $200 for dropping of food that I am already paying a delivery charge for. I am thinking like an even $50 on top of what was already paid?

- Officiant - Independant officiant not affliated with a church. Prepaid.

Thank you all for your help!

Re: Tipping Question

  • 15% of the total food cost is $200. I know that $50 is significantly less, but paying $200 for someone to drive down the street to hand trays over a doorway sounds excessive to me. They have no set up involved.

  • I say you should definately tip the Food Delivery guy. He probably won't actually see the delivery fee (I believe the company keeps that?). 50 bucks seems fine.

In Response to Re:Tipping Question:[QUOTE]How do you get 50?nbsp; If you ordered food in on a Saturday night would you tip 50?nbsp; People complain that when it becomes a wedding, and not a party, everything costs more.nbsp; My question would be, what would you tip if you were having friends over Saturday night, and having food delivered?nbsp; Is this twice, three times as much food?nbsp;nbsp; Can you extrapolate from that?As to whether the delivery person gets the delivery fee, or is paid a salary, the best ime to ask that is before you sign contract, imho, but you can still call and ask now. I'm sorry, but you're an idiot. No, most people don't tip delivery drivers $50 on a Saturday evening when hanging out with friends... but they generally aren't ordering $1000+ worth of food either. Also, the total food cost isn't $200 like you read it - that figure is 15% of the total cost, aka $1300ish... Reading fail, party of NYU.

OP: I generally try to tip 20% since most times the delivery fee goes to the restaurant, not the delivery person. But I agree, a $200 tip for driving down the block is a bit excessive. I think $50 is fine.
