Protein powder

I recently bought some vanilla flavored protein powder on whim.  I got a little $15 mixer to blend it in, so it blends now, but it tastes pretty bad even with blueberries in it.  For those of you who regularly ingest protein powder, how do you do it?

Re: Protein powder

  • I put mine in smoothies. You can't taste it hardly and it makes the smoothie thicker.

  • Banana is a pretty strong flavor that will kill the nasty in a lot of protein powders. When I was on my protein shake kick I would have to add 1/2 a banana to every shake because most flavors make me gag. HTH!

From what ive been told the better the quality the better the taste. I just mix a scoop in with a cup of milk (or even water) and it tastes fine.
  • I have strawberry protein and mix it with skim milk instead of water.  I actually love it!

I haven't tried the vanilla, but I would think what Bec suggested would help.
  • Banana might be a good next step.  Thanks.

  • I mix the chocolate kind with steel cut oatmeal every morning. It takes like cocoa crispies.

  • You can mix it into yogurt, but it takes a while to mix well.

  • In my oatmeal. I know it sounds strange, but its actually not that bad. It does make the oatmeal really thick, though.

  • I"m going to have to remember all of these tips because I've been wondering the same thing.
  • Are you using milk?  My FI said his is nasty with water, but with milk it's really good.  He now uses this protein soy drink stuff instead of regular milk, along with some crushed ice cubes.  When I was sick and couldn't eat solid food, I had one of the shakes with peanut butter added and it was super-tasty, but it's also really high-calorie, so you have to watch what you add in there.  He told me crushed ice and skim milk makes for a pretty low-cal option.

  • I mix one scoop vanilla protein powder with 8 oz light Silk soy milk in a Rubbermaid shaker after a workout and it is delicious. If I have extra time for breakfast I'll do it in the blender w/ 1T peanut butter and half a banana, a few ice cubes 6-8oz soy milk.

I've tried to mix it in nonfat greek yogurt and it was digusting.
