no boxed gifts

I just came across an invitation for a wedding I attended a couple of months ago (don't know why I still have it) and it says "no boxed gifts" at the bottom.  I realize technically one isn't suppose to bring gifts to a wedding, but let's not kid ourselves.  That was a nice way of holding out a hat and saying "cash please!".

I'm in a generally bad mood today and I'm sick so I thought I'd share.  That is all.

My mom just got an invitation that said "Adult Only Reception to follow" and my brother immediately said "Does that mean they're showing porn? Mom, you should probably give them a dildo" (Strangely she didn't find this as funny as I did)

I wonder if that means they'll have cutesy little flower girls in the wedding as props and then make them go home without dinner.

  • Our coordinator insisted we needed a gift table after I flat out told her nobody would be bringing gifts so I didn't want one and only needed the table for the guest book and card box.  Ugh, it would look ridiculous like I expected to receive gifts.  She ended up making a gift table after I left to get ready and like I expected there was 1 gift on it and it looked ridiculous.

If I received an invitation to an adult only reception, I'd be tempted to call the bride and groom and ask how many kids I was allowed to bring to the ceremony.

You are supposed to ship them to the bride either before or after the wedding, preferably before.

Even for in town weddings? Huh, I had never heard of that.

It seems pretty dependent on your circle. I've seen weddings with almost no boxed gifts on the table and others where the table was covered in presents.

It's a pain in the ass to gather all those up at the end of the night, so if you're not giving cash (which is what I've always done anyway) it's considerate to ship the gift to them.
