Gift for SIL

My FI's SIL is really hard to shop for and he needs ideas, so I figured I'd come to you ladies.

I got her a ring dish for Christmas which was around $15.  My FI is trying to also spend $15 on her.

She's not a typical girly girl at all.  Doesn't wear make-up or like bath products.  She has a lot of cats.  They just bought a house a couple years ago and are trying to decorate that.  She's trying to start cooking more so something for the kitchen might be good.

So, throw your ideas my way.

  • Navy, are you on Cruise Critic?

  • You guys don't just give her joint gifts?

We usually do, but we're spending $30 on her husband, so we figured we should spend about the same on her.
  • I saw your name pop up today or yesterday on one of the Dream threads. Freaked me out a bit. When do you sail? What are you thinking about all the reviews? Freaked out at all?

We're sailing on the Dream on April 17th for our honeymoon.  Western itinerary.  You?

I'm pretty excited about the ship.  It's a big jump from the Celebration (our last cruise).  I'm a little worried about the buffet lines, but hopefully that gets fixed soon.  We have an awesome cabin, so I'll just get room service a lot if need be.  lol
  • Thanks for the ideas squirrly.
  • We're going May 22nd. We're driving down from KY on Tuesday, going to DW for a day then going on over to PC to relax for a day and then get on her on Saturday. I'm not tooo worried about the buffet lines because I really don't have anywhere else to be really! Are you going to do the supper club? I think we decided to do it. Doing any excursions? I think we're just going to go out and do things on our own.

Its quite a bit up from what I've been on too, I was on the Victory with my parents right after graduation from high school. They are getting ready to take me on HAL...that should be interesting...lol

  • I think we're going to do the supper club.  Not 100% sure yet though.  I've heard it absolutely delicious though.

Not sure what we're going to do for excursions yet.  I'm thinking cave tubing in Belize, ruins in Costa Maya, and checking out the brand new Mahogany Bay in Roatan.
  • Oh, whoops, we're doing the Eastern itn. I can't wait to go, I'm just ready to get the wedding over with and get us on that boat!

Do you have any special sites or anything for getting discount DW tickets? I haven't been able to find anything. I'm just figuring there isn't anything really.

  • Navy, Belize has the best snorkeling I've been to by far.  But, please don't go outside the restricted tourist shopping area in town.  Some other friends just got back and said EVERYBODY who went past the armed guards got mugged at gun point.

  • AAA is pretty good for buying Disney tickets.  There's nothing really else though.  FL residents don't even get too good of discounts.
  • LVB, military & dependants go to DW free.  Aside from that, check with AAA.  They may have some discounts.  Or, check with your credit union, if you're part of one.  Members Heritage in Lex used to have discount tix.

  • Ok, I'm a gold member with AAA and a member of UKFCU so maybe they'll have something. Good suggestions!

Squirrly, I just bought a Speedo snorkeling set, just the mask and snorkel. Is the snorkel supposed to fit in comfortably? It kinda...bends and I have to hold on to it with my teeth. I've never done it before, so I'm not positive how it's supposed ot be...

  • They're not all that comfy in my experience, no.  But - it shouldn't be painful.  They're often just a bit too wide for my mouth.  I would google and see if there are any tips for breaking that in (we just have always used whatever the boat had).  And, breathing with my face clearly IN the water is awkward too, but handy.  :)

  • Ok, I can deal with uncomfortable. I just had some issues with communal gear. And I was able to buy a set for 20 when it would have been 25 to rent at each port. Plus, I'll get two cruises out of it at least!

  • That's cool.  The first time my dad snorkeled, they asked what size fins.  He said 13, and the guy (who was Jamacian, so please imagine the proper accent) said "With feet that big, you don't need no flipper, mon!"

Your FI's feet are bigger than that, I think.  Perhaps he can go flipper-less.

This isn't true.  The military person gets a 5 day park hopper ticket for free.  The dependants have to pay for theirs.  It is a discounted rate though.
  • Apparently it was true the last time FI went.
