Ok, so I feel like a complete dork because I've been told that putting where my fiance and I are registered at on the bottom of the invitation is rude and tacky so my question..... Where do I put it or how do I let people know where we are registered?

PPs are correct.  Note, though, that it's not just inappropriate ON the invitation - it's inappropriate to mention it anywhere on anything that goes into the envelope with the invite.  Website, so long as it's not the main page or a gigantic flashing "REGISTRY" link, should be fine, as is word of mouth.

I think the URL usually just goes on a save the date since those are less formal

Maybe...MAYBE if you have a directions card in your invite or something you could put a link to it saying go here (link) for more information. But I wouldn't put it :-/
