Anna- Running shoes

I wanted to start a new thread for you, the other one was getting long......

Most people with low arches tend to over pronate, so when you stand you roll your ankle in and look flat footed.  The important thing is to get a shoe with stability.  I have been a runner my whole life and have dealt with pronation.

"The main technology found in Stability shoes is a medial post of dual density foam. Footwear producers inject a harder compound of foam right below the medial side of the arch and sometimes extended all the way to the heel. It is easily recognizable as a darker (almost always gray) piece of foam on the inside of the midsole (view picture). www.runningshoesguru.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/asics-gt-2140-duomax-detail-300x57.jpg" alt="Dual Density Post" title="asics-gt-2140-duomax-detail" width="300" height="57" />

Re: Anna- Running shoes

  • ok the picture didn't show up.........

but I swear by Asics.  I have found them to have the most stability & lifts the arch.
  • Asics are great for stability but do tend to have a narrow last/footbed.  Just remember that when sizing.

  • Cool.  Does the extra stuff like gel/foam make a real difference.

Totally does!  Cushioning will help prevent overuse injuries, tendonitis, future arthritis.
  • I don't really think they are too narrow, Nikes are much more narrow.

I think the Asic GEL 1150 would be good for you, it provides you with the stability you need and has great cushioning in the heel
  • No, but she was complaining about 5th digit irritation before and needs to be sure that she has enough room in the toebox, especially when running.  Her feet will swell when she runs and if the shoe fits fine or is just the right size when she is just standing she may want to buy a wide for comfort.
  • So something like this?

  • I bet you get pain in your knees when you run too.....with the stability right at the arch, it lines up your leg.
  • yup your right, a wide size would probably help her out....
  • Anna - try this site if you can't get to a professional.  It will really help you determine your foot type.

  • anna that shoe says its for normal to high arch, that wouldn't be best for you.......

I would go more with this one...

I use to. Nothing bothers my knees since I had surgery a few years ago.  My knees actually hyperextend now by about 1 1/2 inch

dang.  I have to look at the details better.
  • "A well-cushioned and flexible shoe that gets all the basics right, the 1150 layers lots of foam padding underneath the foot and snugly wraps the arch with a simple upper design that accommodates an expansive toebox"

Yeah thats a great website too!
  • I like the ones you posted Beach.  They sound like they address every problem I have
  • Yeah they seem like the most well rounded shoe and not a bad price!  I hope I was able to help you out a little or atleast point  you in the right direction : )
  • Definitely!  We'll be heading out to buy them on Saturday.  Hopefully we'll get a sales-clerk with at least half a brain.  i'd love to be properly fitted.  You've been a great help.  I figured that since I've been cigarette free for 3 weeks, it's time to stretch my lungs a bit more.

Since you know a bit about foot problems..  And recs for socks?  I wear right through thinner, "breathable" cotton ones in one run but the cushioned sole ones always make my feet so horribly hot.  Is there a better option?
  • haha unfortunately got nothing on socks!  I actually have never had problems with my socks...believe it or not I love Old Navy socks, the little ankle ones.  Or you never can go wrong with good ol' hanes!
  • I wear the Hanes "no show" socks for everyday and love them.  Just checking to make sure I wasn't dooming myself.
  • Anna! If you come back, I want to tell you about wool running socks! I know, at first I was all, "Um, wool? That doesn't sound good for running." But seriously, I got SmartWool socks at REI. They are thin/light cushioning and they are AWESOME. Totally machine washable as well. Unfortunately they are $10/pair, so I am collecting them slowly...

I had a pair of Sauconys that didn't work with my feet. I need the arch support of a more stable shoe and I got fitted at a running store. I ended up buying a wide pari of Brooks.
