[QUOTE]For people who can't get the link to work.  Brown is the kicking consultant.  ETA:  He goes on to say that it is not excuse to have missed the kick. During an appearance with Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on 94 WIP in Philadelphia Tuesday, Brown said “The scoreboard was one down behind, the entire last three plays, from what we understand. That caused Billy Cundiff to have to rush on to the field with just seconds left on the play clock to try and make the kick, which he missed.”

It was the 3rd down when he was kicking, correct? So if the clock was 1 down behind, he would've seen it has second down. (even if it was 4th down, it would've incorrectly said 3rd down). In either case, he would still think there was another down remaining. As others said, this has nothing to do with the play clock, so unless the play clock was wrong, he would know how much time he has left to kick based on what the play clock says. If he runs out of time, they would get delay of game and I believe would get pushed back 5 yards?
In any case, none of this makes any sense and in no way would make him think he's "running out of time and needed to rush to make the kick". And even if that WERE the case, the coach could've called a time out (and maybe he could? I'm not sure about that rule), but a time out could've been called and it wasn't.
If that was some of Patriots "conspiracy" it was a pretty sucky and stupid one.

ETA: I just read a better article that further explained this. It was 4th down, he thought it was 3rd, so was unprepared - so the play clock was running down and that's why he ran out on to the field.

    A) I knew what down it was and I'm just watching the game. How could you be a player IN the game and not know what down it is, especially when there is like a 99% chance it is going to come down to a field goal and you should be PAYING ATTENTION.

    B) if the play clock was running down and he wasn't out there yet, SOMEONE should've called a time out, and they didn't. Even more stupidity. You know the tie game is going to depend on this kick, and you don't call a time out when you see your kicker running out on the field? As soon as we saw him running out we commented on it while watching the game, and said "why aren't they calling a time out?" If we noticed that as people watching, why didn't the coaches?

In the end, there were lots of stupid mistakes on the Raven's side that caused them to lose, even if it was sabotage by the Patriots (which I don't believe it was), they did a lot of stupid things that led them to lose the game.
  • The Patriots won

    The Ravens lost

The game was on Sunday and today is Wednesday.

If you're unhappy with the score, get over it or get used to it, it's done
