Help me make dinner

I'm in the mood to cook and I have no groceries.  So I have to go to the store no matter what.  I have no idea what I want to make.  I'm open to any ideas.

Re: Help me make dinner

  • Sorry, that's way too broad.  Can you narrow it down a little?  Pasta, beef, chicken, pork, fish, vegetarian?
  • We had papa johns and got enough for seventy people, so I'm no help as we'll be eating leftovers for the next week.

  • You could make latkes since it is during Hannukah.  They are pretty easy-- here's a recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Potato-Latkes-I/Detail.aspx

Since it is cold out, you could make chili (and then you can have leftovers later in the week when you don't want to cook!)

Or spinach calzones which are delicious and don't create days of leftovers.

  • Papa John's garlic and parmesan breadsticks are like heaven in my mouth.
  • JK, I think I'm leaning toward something in the beef family.

Sorry I was so vague, I just really have no idea what I want.

  • My favorite easy thing to make is a simple salad with parmesan crusted chicken and savory potatos.
    Savory Potatoes

Roughly dice up to 6 potatoes, put in large bowl
add sea salt, freshly chopped garlic and onion, as well as basil, oregano, black pepper and a touch of paprika

Toss with 2 tbsp of EVOO, bake in oven at 350 until soft (we actually make them a bit crispy)

You have to get a good parmesan for the chicken.  You'll need about 1/2 cup for each chicken breast, grated.

    Parmesan Coating

2 cups grated parmesan (not crappy Kraft stuff either)
    pepper to taste
    Basil to taste
(Do not add salt!  Parm is salty enough on its own!)

Preheat a pan until hot with a couple tablespoons EVOO, put the chicken breasts in to cook, and you'll get a nice, crispy crust on them from the cheese.

And yes, these are kind of sparse recipes because they're things that I've adapted to my taste so there aren't really exact measurements.
  • just make hamburger helper, steam some veggies and call it a night.
  • Shelley, I've never made polenta before.  Today might be a good day to start.

  • Beef Stroganoff?  That's what i'm making tonight.
  • And Amoro, roasted potatoes with lots of herbs is one of my very favorite things in the world.  I think I've just about decided to do steak. My granddad told me once that when he doesn't know what he wants to eat, he just grills a ribeye and it always turns out to be exactly what he wanted in the first place. And a ribeye would go really nicely with the roasted potatoes.
