Unwanted Calls

So, I've gotten 15 calls in the past hour from 2 different phone numbers.  They call and hang up, no voice mail.  I can't answer because of being at work.

I've looked up both the numbers an they are both from AIG insurance on an automated system.

Anybody know how to stop these calls?

It's driving me crazy.

Re: Unwanted Calls

  • Call AIG and ask them wtf is updog.

Or report them to your state's consumer protection division?

[QUOTE]-answer and tell them to remove you (can you step away to take a call)? -have the #s blocked through your cell provider -add your cell # to the do not call list if you haven't done that.

This, that is so annoying. I hate those calls.

  • Ditto adding your number to the do not call list or calling them to see what's up. Even though they'll probably have no idea why exactly they were calling.

  • Thanks guys!  I knew there had to be someone to report them to, I just wasn't sure who.

I'm ok with the occasional telemarketing call but 15 times/hour is a bit excessive. :/

  • The worst is when you have someone else's old phone number and the bill collectors keep calling and don't believe that they have the wrong number.

This happens with my work cell phone and my house phone all the time.  I don't even answer my house phone anymore, it's really only for the alarm system.

it doesn't matter if they "believe" you or not. If you insist they cease and desist calling that number, you will be removed from their call queue. If not, you should absolutely report them.

  • I was finally able to talk with one of the numbers calling.  They have a wrong number.  Hopefully this stops both the numbers.  *fingers crossed*

    Thanks for the help ladies!

  • This past summer I had the cops calling me once a day looking for some girl who was in a car accident (it was her fault and then gave the police a name and then my number).  It took three times of me telling them they have the wrong number and to stop calling for them to realize I wasn't lying.  I told them I"d bring documentation in from my cell phone company to prove I was who I said I was.  I was pissed.

I would have been so pissed!

We had a lawyer come to work once looking for some woman who had not paid child support, he came for a week because he didn't believe us. We finally showed him our licence and that sent him away, the jerk.

  • I also get calls on my home phone from bill collectors for the last owner of the number.  I usually just say that I get calls for these people from time to time, but I've had this number for x amount of years now and I don't know how to get in touch with the people they are looking for.  That is usually enough for them and they stop calling.  I have even called back companies who left enough information on my voicemail for me to get me off their calling list.  If they continue to call, then you contact your state's Attorney General's office to have harrasment charges brought up.  You should especially contact the AG's office, if you have repeatedly told the offending company that x doesn't own this phone number anymore.
  • I would be annoyed by this also.

I have gotten calls on my cell from Jennifer at "Accounts Services" for over a year now, intermittantly. It is a total scam. They call with an automated message about lowering your credit card rate and press one for a person. Every time they call it is a different number. I have pressed one several times and asked to be taken of their list, but they either hang up or are very rude to me. Somehow the FTC can't fix it because they use different numbers every time.

I forget about it for awhile, like maybe a month goes by, and then bam every day for three weeks.

  • In the past 2 months I've had 15 voicemails from Cardholder services with my "FINAL COURTESY CALL" to lower my CC rates. I don't have any CC debt. And I don't need 15 final offers.

  • We keep getting calls from different companies for a certain lady. We don't know if she ever lived in this house, but when she changed phone numbers, she never told anyone.

Like, H has that loyalty card thing with Best Buy. He always forgets to take it in. So they ask him for his phone number and this lady's name comes up. I was standing at an angle where I could see the screen (and I'll not do anything with that - heck I can't even remember the state it said) but she's living somewhere in the midwest now.

We're renting at the moment, and we get letters for four or five previous tenants. Some are the usual things that never give up... charity letters and the like. But, the lady before us - her daughter just had a baby. Her OBGYN is still sending letters here. Is it such a big deal to get a post office forward on your mail?

Yes! Oh my goodness. I've had my number for 3 years now. At first, I got tons of calls for some guy with an Indian name - from his friends and debt collectors. Now, I only get calls from debt collectors, but still, it's so annoying. If it's a number I don't recognize, I don't answer - they can leave a VM.
