Re: Man-gagement ring?

  • I think "man-gagement ring" is one of the most obnoxious wedding terms I've ever heard!

This. I have no problem with a guy who wears an engagement ring, but do we have to call them something special? It's a ring that you wear to show you are engaged. It's a god damn engagement ring.

  • I'm going to start calling my e-ring a wo-man-gagement ring, and my wedding band my bride band.

AND THEN NO ONE WILL GET CONFUSED IF I'M A MAN OR A WOMAN!

  • My cousin wears one, though he won't give anyone a clear indication on whether he is actually engaged.

I also think the name is pretty stupid.

    <div>Ditto.</div><div>
</div><div>I've never even really heard of people doing this, except I did see it on VH1s "Love and Hip Hop."  The whole presenting the ring to the man thing was pretty awkward, at least on the show.  </div><div>
</div><div>Anywho, I'm going to run away now that I admitted I watched that crap.</div>

Hence the confusion on other people's parts, KWIM?

  • If the intention of calling them "man-gagement" rings was to make it more "manly", they failed. I have no problem with engagement rings on men but it's still just an engagement ring. No difference.
  • I have heard of it before a friend of mine got a ring for her FI for Christmas since their wedding is in October 2013. She said that he'd asked for one.

  • She put a ring on IT?

  • Agree with the man-gagment ring. I would call it an engagment ring regardless and no I don't know anyone who has one-

  • After we decided we were going to have a VERY long engagement, I bought my now H a ring. He decided he liked it so much it's now his wedding band. My sister bought her H a ring too to wear during their engagement. But I'm pretty sure both of these guys would shake us if we called it a man-gagement ring. Ew.

My FI is wearing an engagement ring. The ring he wears now, he will continue to wear to work (works around machines and chemicals). The ring he will receive on the wedding day he doesn't want to wear to work, only special occasions.

He would look at me like I was crazy if I called his ring a man-gagement ring.

  • The first I've heard of this was Michael Buble. I had never heard of a man wearing an e-ring before and haven't since.
If this becomes a trend I would be surprised, but I can see how jewelers might like to make this happen.

  • The term man-gagement ring is not only obnoxious, but it's sexist. And unnecessary. The term is, I mean. I don't know any guys that have one, personally. But I can see this becoming a trend in the nearish future.

  • My fiance doesn't wear an engagement ring, but he does wear a class ring. Since we moved to London at least four people have asked him if it's an engagement ring, which amuses me.

And not one of them has tried to use the term "man-gagement". Bleah.
  • Funny--I ordered a tungsten wedding band for FI online (got a great deal on it), but it turned out to be half a size too big for his left ring finger. It fits his right, though, so I said he could keep it as an "engagement ring" and I would order another to fit his left ring finger. He really likes wearing it!
  • I don't like that term either. My fiance and I bought my engagement ring, wedding ring, and his wedding ring all at the same time, and he started wearing the ring on his left hand ever since he got it.  I didn't ask him to, he just started doing it.  So I guess it's his engagement ring, and it will be his wedding ring as well.
