Catnapper - literally!

A few hours ago, my cat ran outside. About a half hour later, it started to rain so I opened the screen door because I knew he'd come running in. Well, he had something in his mouth and ran straight to the laundry room and plopped himself onto a blanket. Every timeI went near him, he started hissing and swatting at me. Finally, I see what I THOUGHT was a rat! As I went to grab Domino away, I heard a soft meowing. MY CAT BROUGHT HOME A KITTEN!

She has to be no older then 6-8 weeks old. We called the emergency animall hospital and they told us to keep her warm, give her diluted milk, cat food and bring her to the vet tomorrow. She is eating, drinking and using the litter box, I also gave her some nutra-cal (dietary supplement for cats and dogs) and a bath. She is currently asleep on Fi's chest.

I can not imagine what possessed my cat to bring her in. Lately, he has been running outside every opportunity he gets, the other day he came running in the house with a black cat following on the porch. Im assuming its the kittens mother. He also sits in the window and cries. But why would he bring the kitten home? Domino has not left the kittens side since he brought her in.

I asked all my neighbors and looked all over for a potential mother or other kittens, but no luck.

Oh and my cat is fixed, so it cant be his kitten.

We will be keeping her, But she needs a name...

Awww thats sweet! Your cat is a good samaritan.
  • Awwwww  :)  There is no way I could not keep that kitten, unless it already had an owner.
  • OMG how cute.

  • Shes the cuddliest little thing too! I just cant understand why my cat would bring her home. She was soaking wet from the rain though. Poor thing.
  • Apparently, I'm a grimice tonight. I think her cat stole the kitten! Especially since they just saw the probable mother the other day.

I'm guessing they tried to work out custody agreement after one of them cheated on the other. A la this video

I wonder if anyone in your neighborhood is looking for her?
  • He hasnt left her side once. He lays on the top of the recliner and watches her every move.

CS, funny you mention that, FI and I have been talking about getting another cat for him to play with. I guess he took the initiative to do it himself.
  • Awww Sarah that is just heart breaking! good for you for taking care of the little guy :)
  • OMFG my heart is like literally smiling right now. What a sweetheart of a kitten! And clearly you are an excellent cat mommy as your cat is awesome, and concerned about the welfare of his fellow kitties Laughing
  • Nebb, I have asked all my neighbors and no one knows anything. :/ I wouldnt keep her if I knew she had a good home, I would return her.

Im glad shes safe now, that would be awful for he to be out in the rain at night.
  • Name ideas- I vote Stormy, since your kitty brought her home in a rainstorm.

  • Awww your cat likes to make friends! This is so cute
  • Shes warm and safe and snuggled now. But we are lost on a name for her. Any suggestions?

LVB, too funny! My cat is orange and the probable mother is black.
  • wow, that is the cutest thing I have heard in a long time.

Exactly! The black cat was out being a Slu, got knocked up by her pimp and your cat flat out kidnapped her kids. I just don't even know what to say about it all.

  • So cute!  I had a foster kitten that looked similar once - her name was Betty Boop, so I'm no help whatsoever.  Athena?  Greek goddess of storms?

I big puffy heart you too.

I'm supposed to be writing a paper on Incest Taboo...think I can pull out a paper out of this story. I mean, I only need a D to get a Pass for the class. I think a creative story might be in order here....lol

  • I love the name Stormy too!  BUT I must say - one of my kitties ran away a couple years ago and this lady picked her up and adopted her.  Lucikly I had posted all over the place about my kitty being missing and I had a chip installed in her so when the stealer brought her in they called me right away.  I think its awesome that you (and your cat) want to adopt this kitten but a couple posts on craigslist will make it 100% legit IMOP.

Im convinced this is what happened, ha.
  • My brother's long haired cat escaped weeks ago, but he has seen her around the neighborhood.  Somebody managed to catch her, shaved her, and then released her.  It really creeps me out that somebody did that...

  • Im liking stormy.

I am going to keep asking around and do a flyer at the vets office.
  • Right?  I mean, she is so skittish, it is amazing somebody caught her to begin with.  But to shave her?  I'm trying to convince myself that it was to check to see if she is fixed or something, but yeesh.
