Mary Kay

Anybody use Mary Kay products? Good, bad, ugly, too expensive, not worth it, etc, thoughts in general?

Re: Mary Kay

• I love most of the Mary Kay stuff. I think the biggest thing is that I can try it before I buy it so that helps. I really hate spending money on a new type of makeup because I never know if I'm going to like it and it ends up being a waste. But for the most part I have like Mary Kay makeup but I don't think there is really anything special about the cleansers and moisturizers and stuff like that :)

Oh...yes. I love it. I forgot I use that, too.
• Mary Kay reminds me of old ladies dressed in a lot of pink.

• I just went to a party last weekend and bought the foundation.

I don't wear makeup EVER. But, there are times when it's needed. I really like it. I also want to by the makeup remover as soon as the one I have at home runs out. I can't stand waste and if I buy it now, I'll never finish the one I have at home.

The parties are annoying and I feel pressured, but I like this rep A LOT so, we'll see how it goes.

LOL. They are trying really hard to move away from that image, but it must not be working so well.
• I love you for your pink Cadillac
crushed velvet seats

• I use it regularly. But I get it from my mom, don't go to parties, am not hassled, etc. Before I used MK I used Oil of Olay--it was certainly a big improvement from that, at least on my skin.

But I'm getting older and am thinking of switching to a more medically developed line like Dermalogica, Skinceuticals, etc. for skincare. I don't think MK has strong enough anti-aging ingredients. I'll still use the makeup though.

• I went to a MK party once, and it was god-awful with the sales pressure. Since then I refuse to attend any sort of party to buy anything, whether it's make up, food storage, candles, jewelry, cooking utensils... you name it. If someone comes up with a home party for free cocktails, sign me up. Other than that, I can't do it. It makes me die inside.
• I love the eye makeup remover. Ditto, buying it on eBay.

I spend way too much time/money on eBay. I just can't handle retail prices! :P

• I went to an MK party a few weeks ago, and wasn't all that impressed. The products looked okay on (though the mineral makeup was a bit heavier than what I like) but nothing special. I know what looks good on me as far as makeup goes, and I personally thought the colors the saleslady thought I should try weren't quite right. I took the trial size mascara home and my eyes started itching the next day (never happened before with anything else) so I threw that away. When the saleslady came to my home a couple days later to deliver the two eyeshadows I decided to purchase, I was shocked to see how tiny they were! I thought I was getting a good deal, but the amount you get is so small.
• I've tried Mary Kay at various times and always hated it.
• I have some friends who rave about their lotion. I tried it, and it was ok--but I'd much rather just get something at the store down the street for much cheaper.
• I love Mary Kay eye make-up remover. I tried all different ones, and I only buy theirs now. I love it. I don't like their make-up.

• I am a part-time MK consultant (trying to pay for this wedding!) but a full time teacher :) I really like the products and think the company is fantastic. They really do care about not only their customers but also consultants. I'm sorry some of you feel harrased. I know that I personally hate feeling that way so try really hard to not be like that with my customers. Those of you who buy products from EBay, that's fine, just make sure what you are getting is not expired. If you are getting good products though, enjoy :)

Oh honey. They have you drinkin' that pink Kool-aid. Go to www.pinktruth.com. They will set you straight.
• Yeah I've been to that site. I was trying to be nice with my post when I could have gotten nasty. If you don't like it, or have issues personally with the product - whatever, everyone is different. But I have to say the extra $1000 I've made in the last few months hasn't hurt. I'm not in it for the car or moving up - I just want the money and I'm almost debt free thanks to that extra money. Oh and if I remember correctly, I wasn't responding to you goheels, I was responding to the OP.
Wedding Countdown Ticker
• It's a free forum; anyone can respond to whomever they want, however they want. You don't get to dictate what others say.

If you're one of the very few consultants who are actually making money, good for you. But let's not pretend that a business, which, by definition, exists for the sole purpose of making money, "cares" about anyone.
• LOL what on earth are you talking about? Where did all that nonsense come from?

I didn't have anything bad to say about you as a consultant. Nothing "bad" happened to me to make me feel the way I do about MLMs. I suggested you read Pink Truth so that you know what you are getting into. You have already read it and made your decision. That's fine. I'm happy that it's working for you.

I'm not talking about the consultants not caring about their customers. I'm sure you do care about your customers, as most of them are probably your family and friends. I'm sure my consutant cares, too, as she is a friend of mine as well. I'm talking about the business not caring. Business being MK headquarters and the owners. They are in the business of making money. No, they do not care about you. If they did, their business wouldn't be set up 2 bricks shy of a pyramid scheme. If they cared about you, they wouldn't pressure you to keep tons of inventory on hand and recruit all your friends to sell. They wouldn't give you blatantly incorrect tax advice and encourage you to go to national conventions on your own dime.

If you personally are not getting tricked into buying more inventory than you can sell, and if you aren't spending your own money to go do these crazy things, and if you are actually making a profit, that's awesome and I'm happy for you, just like I hope my consultant is actually making money rather than digging herself further into debt. But don't pretend that the business cares about you or anyone else, because they don't.

At no point did I attack you personally. You need to chill. Funny you think something bad must have happened to me to make me think the way I do. Nothing "happened" to me. I'm curious why you are so defensive when I didn't say anything bad about you in the first place.

[QUOTE]You know what, you are so right that I cannot dictate what other people say. But, by the same token, that goes for you too. I did not come here to promote my business or get people to "like" MK. I came here to give my opinion. You did not have anything negative to say on this board until I mentioned I was a consultant. By the way you reacted to that you must have had something bad happen to you and for that I am sorry. As far as caring for my customers, yeah I'm in it for the money, but sweetie I do care. Can you honestly tell me that your doctor is your doctor only because he/she cares for your well being and for no other reason? I can guarantee you that if you believe that you are in denial. Yes, doctors care about their patients, but most wouldn't have chosen that career path if it weren't for the money. That doesn't make them bad people though. Just like I have no right to tell you what you can and cannot say here, you have no right to judge or bash me when I did nothing wrong. You must have nothing better to do than to lurk on these boards and pick fights with people for no reason other than to make yourself feel better. Were you a bully gowing up? Because all this crap that you have to say sounds a lot like the behavior and nonsense I see from the 5th graders I teach. I refuse to put up with it in my classroom and I refuse to put up with it from you or anyone else here.

SURELY! It always amuses me when teachers try to pull the "you're acting like my students" or "I don't put up with this crap from my 5th graders so I'm not going to put up with it from you." Power trip much?

• I could say a million things right now trying to defend myself or others who have posted but come on guys, this is ridiculous. I was only trying to give my opinion. I apologize that my first post cause this craziness. This is supposed to be a place where we can come together and give each other ideas, tips, an ear to listen, etc. Not this other stuff. If you are currently planning a wedding - congrats! I'm in the same boat and lovin' it :) If you're married - congrats to you too! You're livin' my dream :) All I want is a place where I can swap ideas, get lots of planning tips from others, and maybe give out some tips myself once in a while; not feel hostility or anger, or whatever else is going on here. Let's say we all move on and forget about this. We are on a Wedding site for goodness sake! How in the world can we (myself included!) be so negative? Good luck with everything ladies - happy planning and happy being married!! :)

Mag - what do you mean by "Have you actually lurked at all?" Do you know what the definition of that word is? You have me confused as to your usage of the word... In my last post I was trying to do the right thing and turn this whole post around to be more civil and adult-like. Please don't try to turn it around the other way. I thought that if I wanted to find this type of conversation I had to go to the Snarky Boards to get it. Guess I was wrong...

• You were the one who got hostile. Don't try to pull the "let's all get along!" card unless you are actually going to apologize and admit that you were being ridiculous for no good reason.

Also, if I'm going to guess which one of the two of you knows the definition of lurking, I'm going to go with the poster who has 3,800 posts, not the one who has 8 posts. You should probably shut up now because you aren't doing yourself any favors.
