Recommend a song...

Good morning!

FI and I are doing a photo slideshow (I know not all of you like these)... it will be shown during dinner at the reception, max 15 minutes long. There will be 3 parts: 1 of FI growing up, 1 of me growing up, and 1 of both of us together. A different song for each section of photos.

I'm giving myself a complex trying to pick my song, and I'm hoping you'll all have some ideas for me. :) I was originally going to do I'm a Believer  by The Monkees because I love the Monkees and listened to them a ton growing up, but decided I wanted something sung by a woman. I can't find anything I like.

At this point, I'm completely open to genres. Fun/funny is fine. I've googled everything I can think of. Any thoughts?

TIA.

Re: Recommend a song...

  • Good morning to you too.

What songs have you chosen for the other two segments?

  • FI is leaning toward Ted Nugent's Fred Bear... even though we'll have to cut it down because it's almost 8 minutes long.

We're going to use Huey Lewis' Power of Love for the photos of us.

I'm trying to avoid being overly cliche for mine... songs like Man! I feel like a Woman and Girls Just Want to Have Fun I don't want to use.
  • Hmm, the song I'm thinking of is country, sung by a woman, about a girl growing up and the different stages of life.

Can I think of the name of it, of ourse not....

  • Hmmm is it I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack?
  • How about some of these?  I think "in my Daughters eyes" is the one I was thinking of before.

  • LOL I was just looking at that same exact list. :)
  • Yes, it was "hope you dance"

Will you do the rest of my thinking today, please? I haven't been so hot at it.

  • OK, re-reading that list, some of those are really super sad, such as "holes in the floor of heaven"  I recommend you skip that one.  Along with "don't take the girl"

Maybe we should have googled HAPPY songs about growing up?

  • Haha I would, but I don't know how much help I'll be. My poor brain is fried. Yesterday I met with my parents and MOC's and went over the entire wedding day itinerary; who'll be where when, etc. On one hand, I'm relieved because everything seems to be in place and ready. But on the other hand, I feel completely beat just thinking about it.

I'm hoping to distract myself with this slideshow this week, finish the BM's shoes over the weekend, and then I'll just have a few days to wait until the fun starts. T-minus 9 days until I'm off work for 12. Wheee!

That's the problem I'm running in to! All the songs by women are either 1) Totally overused, 2) Super sappy, or 3) Completely biitchy. There has to be a few that work. LOL!
  • Brown Eyed Girl!! :D  I love that song!  And pretty much any Van Morrison, tbh.

Can you show it during cocktail hour?  I went to a wedding where they did that, and showed photos of their Hindu wedding in India.  That was pretty cool because people could mill around and watch or not while there was plenty for conversations, etc.
  • Amoro, perhaps we're being selfish but we want to be there when it's played. :)

Brown Eyed Girl is on my list of possibles... I think it's somewhat overplayed but it is a good song. Plus I have brown eyes. LOL! I wonder if there's a version out there sung by a woman? That might change it up a bit.
  • You may have to skip the sung by a woman requirement.

There has to be something on tat ist.  How about the one by Bill Engvall?  Is that one funny? (obviously I've been out of the states way too long.)

  • I looked up the Bill Engvall... it's actually just a clip from one of his stand-up routines. :(
  • OK girls, thanks for the help. :) If you think of anything else - let me know! I've got to get ready for (blah) work. I'll check in again when I get to the office. Someone pray for a quiet day at work for me... last week was a disaster.
  • ****butting in****

What about "This One's for the Girls" by Martina McBride?

I will have to say I love the song by Heartland "I Loved her First". It makes me cry every time. I knew I couldn't do it for our first dance song, even though I cried anyway...lol

  • Jessica Andrews -- Who I Am. I love that song.

I'm not sure if I know that song, fische - I'll have to check it out.
  • OoooOOOooooo Fische that might be the one! :)
