Feeding DJ????

So, I know it's expected to feed the photographer (and his assistant, if he has one) but what about the DJ?  Does he get the full meal too?  What if he's playing background music for the dinner portion of the reception?

Re: Feeding DJ????

  • From what I have see/heard, a DJ will have a pre-set group of songs to play during dinner. That way, they can press "Play" and go to the bathroom or eat. They aren't necessarily at their station the entire time.

And yes, you should feed your DJ the full meal. What your photog eats should be what your DJ eats too.

  • Yes, you should feed him.  Check out your contract - it may actually be stipulated that you provide a meal.  Some caterers provide vendor meals, although it is nice if you offer them the same meal as your guests.  Ask your DJ what he would prefer - some may just want a sandwich as opposed to a full meal, since they'll be working.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • We fed our DJ.  It didn't occur to us not to.

Our wedding started at 5:30, he started setting up at 4-4:30.  The reception ended at 11pm, I'm sure he had 30 or minutes of break down.  That is a long time not to have a meal.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Yes you should.

And remember to tell them that they are welcome to a meal BEFORE the wedding. I didn't, and I did not remember to tell them that day. I hope that they got some anyway.
