I bought a car last weekend from my BIL and paid cash for it.... I don't have the title yet, just the bill of of sale we wrote up.I know I need that, and the proof of insurance.... anything else?Also- do I have to go to a dmv office in the county I live in??? It would be much more convenient to go to the one I work in!

I just did this but in VA (but i think its the same)you need proof of insurance, title of car, and proof of purchase. I don't know about the county thing. Not sure if you have to do this but I  had to register our car. So I had to show proof of residence.

When I sold my car back in 2006 the guy was from Durham but we went to the DMV near my place in Raleigh to complete the transfer so you should be fine.

Thanks girls! Just called the DMV... you can do it in any county! YAY for not having to deal with Mecklenburg Co today!
