[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Good morning! : We fly on Wednesday morning.  I am crossing my fingers, hard.  It's Kansas City to Chicago, though--we have zero snow here in KC and Chicago generally knows how to deal with snow pretty well.

My grandparents were supposed to fly out from Chicago on Wednesday but they're freaking out about the ice that's supposed to come Thursday.  I don't really see how a storm on Thursday is going to mess up their travel on Wednesday.  But none the less they cancelled and I understand, but I'm sad.  I'm so glad I didn't already buy all the food for the big Christmas eve dinner I was planning for 12 people that has now been slimmed down to just 3 people.

[QUOTE]PS...Dani - That thread to RSVP girl made me laugh. Mostly because I would have substituted "awful" or "stupid" in the place of "funny" when you said how many people felt about it.

Well, I did think it was funny, but I also wanted to be nice to her so she wasn't scared of us.  ;)

[QUOTE]How's Indiana looking?  We're actually flying into Chicago and then driving to Fort Wayne to stay with family.  Last Christmas was AWFUL--the whole city was coated in ice!

Indiana in general is going to get it on Thursday, ice and freezing rain.  Yuck!  We're supposed to drive from Indianapolis up to my hometown near Lake Michigan on Thursday and I'm thinking maybe we should leave Wednesday night instead so we aren't driving in it.

Yikes.  We'll be in Indiana through Saturday morning, so things will hopefully be cleared up a bit by then.

My friend just started planning her wedding in Indy for February 2011.  I'm excited!  It sounds like they're going to have a huge fancy blow-out.  Should be a good time.

  • Actually we found Cuba cheaper than other places, which was one of the main reasons we went. Our AI package was only $800 pp including airfare and taxes.

  • Good morning, all. My Monday is decidedly better than those of you dealing with ice and snow. It is 32 here and dry and sunny. I'm only working through Wednesday, then we get to do the visit every single family member in 48 hours starting Thursday at lunchtime. I'm sooo not looking forward to it. I want to see my family, but I never look forward to the driving back and forth. That's what happens when your entire family lives within a 50 mile radius.
  • Arb, are you going to go after the apartment for that, since its their fault?

I just woke up and theres approximately 1mm of snow on my car it would appear. Im pretty certain thats the most snow were getting between now and christmas... when its supposed to sleet and rain.
  • Nebb - yeah, Scott called them on the way to the ER and told them that they'd better get somebody over there. It was just as bad this morning as I was getting to my car, so I'm sure there's going to be more issues with people falling. His insurance is covering almost everything, but we're definitely getting the apartment to pay any money that we have to shell out.  H is going to try and work from home these next few days, but he doesn't have a lot of sick time overall, so if he's not able to get paid for work, I think we might try to get compensation for that from the apartment also.

  • I think you should, its completely negligent that they let that happen. When I was a property manager I had a person who we sent out during and directly after snow falls to shovel the steps and salt to prevent things like that from happening because before I started there were two tenants who fell at different properties and took legal action. Im glad hes not as bad as a fall like that could have injured him.
  • Fortunately there aren't many elderly people who live in my complex, because their injuries definitely would be a lot worse than H's.

The other really bad thing is that this happened to his right foot/leg, so he can't drive, and on Christmas Day they are calling for freezing rain.  Bad weather conditions make me nervous, and my family lives out in the boonies about an hour away from us.  I have no idea how this is going to affect our plans

  • Wow.  Good Morning to you too.

The mopping up blood thing is scary.  That's awful.  My stomach just turned a little bit.  It's a horrible reminder about how vulnerable we can be.
