Oh that's sucks and is great all in the same statement. Have fun tonight and sorry about the job.

I might be looking for a job next school year. The CAO of our region is looking to replace the whole staff in my school. she says we aren't getting the scores up fast enough. BUT, as a staff, we feel that if we had better discipline and consequences, the school would be so much better. These kids can get away with murder and then we are supposed to teach. Drama!!!

Hey, Snippy! Since this thread is ice cold anyway... did your H tell you that he has quarterbacks he's looking to get rid of? He tried to trade one off to me for one of my starting WRs (he told me he was going to use him as a bye week reciever.. riight). I made an equally as insulting counteroffer and he dropped it. Hehe.

This exactly.  If you have children (it doesn't matter how old they are) in your classroom you should be paying attention to them and trying to work with them to improve their scores.

I agree, even if there's a movie playing you should still be attentive to insure they are paying attention instead of doing things like texting.

This, too.  I realize that discipline has to start at home and while a lot of parents don't discipline their children, it is yoru responsibility to impose discilpine upon the students once they enter the school building.  As long as the discipline procedures imposed within the classroom are within the school rules students lose their so-called rights the second they walk through the doors in the morning.

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to be a teacher in an environment where you have little to no administrative or parental support.  I give major kudos to those who try.  But -- sorry, Courtney -- if you are knotting in the classroom after a "mini-lesson" and leaving your kids to your own devices, then I have to say you're part of the problem and not the solution.  Under those circumstances, I can't blame the district for wanting to start from scratch.

Courtney, I can't not even freaking believe you are knotting right now when you should be teaching. My mom would have had your ass fired for such nonsense if you were my teacher. If I were a parent, I would be calling the school board every day saying that my kid's teacher is on a message boards all day long when she should be teaching my kids while getting paid with MY TAX DOLLARS.

Last time I checked, the work you did on your own was called "homework" and you're supposed to do it at home. In the classroom you should be teaching a lesson. If you legitimately end early and want to give them time to work, that's fair, but purposely planning a "mini" lesson (her words not mine) just so you can knot is just unbelieveable.

There's a difference between breathing down their necks and supervising. How many kids do you know have cell phones? I bet a lot of them are texting when she's not paying attention and walking around. Also by walking around many issues can be addressed BEFORE a student makes a mistake, or to clear up a misconception.

I'm not saying she needs to breathe down their necks, but walking up and down the aisles a couple times while they are supposed to be working wouldn't hurt anyone.

My teachers didn't breathe down my neck while I was in older classes either, but they sure as hell didn't hang out at the front not paying attention to wtf we were doing.  They graded papers, prepared things for the next class, answered questions, and kept an eye on what we were doing.
