Yep, I'm a PW. AND?

OMG, this makes me kind of sick: http://gawker.com/5692958/vote-on-whether-this-couple-gets-an-abortion

I'm 99.9% sure they're just trying to get famous, which makes it even more sickening.
Yeah that makes me sick. I'm pro-choice, but this isn't their choice, their leaving it up to the public to decide. I think the 2 miscarraiges she had already when they were designing that site before were a sign that they are shitty people who shouldn't be parents. How about change the abortion part to put it up for adoption?
Posted by dnbeach12
I'm not sure I understand this statement. Are you saying they're shitty people who shouldn't be parents because she had miscarriages? Because that's what it sounds like, but I really don't think you would say something so ignorant.

• That's what bothers me, dn. How can you let someone else make a decision like that for you?

As it says in the article, people who are pro-choice are often not pro-abortion.
image
• What's realy gross about it is that this couple is really just going through what we're all going through... waiting around to see if abortion gets banned and the choice is made for us.
This project is very haunting in that way.

But the fact that they are actually going to listen to the results of this poll is more disturbing than anything.

No, not at all. It said in the article she was pregnant twice before and they were making the same site for both pregnancies, but she miscarried before the site went up. I'm saying I think those miscarriages were signs from God saying that they were shitty people if they are going to let the world decide for them if they should have an abortion.

• I'm going with adoption, because these people clearly don't need to be caring for a child.

• I'm an agnostic pro-choicer and this really pisses me off. Ending a potential life should not be taken so lightly. They probably wouldn't make a poll on whether she should get a mammogram if she found a lump in her breast, so why do they think it's appropriate to make a poll on whether they end her pregnancy or not?
• Even if they have the kid, they're going to end up like the Balloon Boy's family. These people are so desperate for attention that they'd kill a child for it. And yes, even though I'm pro-choice, I think going through with an abortion at 20 weeks on a child you know the sex of is pretty much murder.
image
• According to the couple, they've been unsure about whether they're ready to be parents and have concluded that the best way to proceed is to ask random people on the Internet if they should have the child.

Yea, if they think this is the best way for them to decided whether or not they should be parents, the answer is NO.

Me too. I think it's completely ridiculous that they're letting it go on this long.
• This is horrible. Abortion is a serious decision that should not be entered into lightly and should not be treated lightly. They are making this decision seem like one that people make on a whim. I am pro-choice and am not in favor of too many limits on abortion or its availability, but I am not pro-abortion.

How do they know that she won't face physical issues or that either of them won't have emotional issues if they have the abortion? Are they ready (physically, emotionally, financially) to care for a child? There are so many factors here.

This just makes light of a decision that so many women and couples have had to face, regardless of what decision they end up making.
• Well, then.
Can CPS take away a fetus? Like, could they just take the mother and lock her up until she gives birth?

I don't think so. I know a father can sue to stop an abortion, but if both parents are on board with it I don't think there is anything you can do. This seems like it should definitely be stopped though if they do make a choice to abort the baby solely based on the website.

• I can't get over the fact that they don't know if they're ready to be parents, but have had three pregnancies in the last year and a half.

Birth control is not hard to figure out, and honestly, someone should force the pill down this woman's throat.
• This is fuucking psychotic... however, this comment made me bloody howl:

"Not only am I voting yes, I think they should be sterilized too."
image
• They do say that the results of the poll aren't binding and that they will be making the final decision (they compare themselves to the president having veto power).

I still think they're heinous asshats who shouldn't have a child, though.

• People like this further my belief that many of society's problems will be solved by simply putting birth control in the water supply.
• I think they're heinous asshats no matter what decision they end up making.

But I'm voting pro-life stunt.
• Can you imagine if they did keep this kid and I dunno, ten years from now the poor little sod finds this on the net? I mean, it's out there now, it isn't going away. Despicable.
image
• This really pisses me off. If they really weren't sure they wanted to be parents, why did she get pregnant three times? You'd think after the first time, they'd say, "Gosh, we dodged a bullet" and then start using condoms. That's if this is real.

I think this is some sort of wacko parody of what those idiots think being pro choice means, and that makes me angry.

Also, it's really going to suck if their kid ever finds out about this.

• WTF is wrong with people? I mean, honestly. Things have gotten out of control. I'm pro-choice and this is frankly reprehensible. It's also a mockery of a woman's real dilemma when it comes to abortion. The choice is not so easy for some as putting up a poll. I'm going to go bang my head on my desk.

• I would be willing to bet this is a pro-life stunt, as PPs mentioned. I read somewhere yesterday that someone from the anti-choice ("pro-life") movement is attempting to get ads with pictures of abortions aired during the Super Bowl; they're trying to do it under the guise of a political campaign, making it harder to censor the ads.

• I just took a look at the website, and the posts there are not at all like the kind of things a person would say if they were actually planning on aborting. "The doctor says the baby has eyelashes now!"

Yeah......

This.

Seeing that they have gotten pregnant 3 times in the past year, I guess that not only are they not practicing birth control, they are actively trying to get pregant. And really, why do that is you're "not sure you're ready to be parents."

I call BS...all a publicity stunt. It's pathetic what some people will do to make themselves famous.
• With all the publicity this is getting, I have to wonder if any doctor in her right mind would perform the procedure for them, should they choose to abort. Don't you have to be deemed to be in your right mind to have any optional (I'm sorry, it's not the right word, but I can't think of what it should be) medical procedure performed? I would think this might present an ethical dilemma to the doctor.

I have to agree that this is a pro-life stunt. If they were really trying to make a decision this way, there would be an "adoption" option, rather than just the two sides of this coin.

I think you're looking for "elective" Mel. And I'm not sure they would classify her as mentally unstable. Stupid and ridiculous, yes. But plenty of stupid and ridiculous people have babies, unfortunately.

EDIT: My last sentence doesn't make any sense so just ignore it.
