My father (who some of you might recall died earlier this fall from smoking related cancer) had several good friends who were also heavy smokers. One of them, Vaughn, has been battling cancer for the past 15 years. He was living with his son and grandkids because he was too ill to be left alone.
Apparently, last night, he was smoking in bed, while on oxygen. He set himself and the house on fire, and his son nearly died trying to get him out of the house. Clearly, the son wasn't thinking straight in the first place since Vaughn probably was dead pretty quick. But my god. You have to smoke THAT badly that you're willing to not just kill yourself, but take your son, DIL and grandkids with you!?
I hate the kind of selfish and willful arrogance that smokers (by and large) exhibit. From the people who stand right outside a doorway or a bar to smoke, to parents who smoke in front of their kids, or in a house or closed car. You have made the choice to affect YOUR health. Stop spreading it around to everyone else.
