Help me - decor content (PIP)

Restarting the kitchen reno soon, and I need to make some color decisions. I'm agonizing over it because I've already made a few color mistakes in this house, that are turning out to be costly and/or a major pain to fix. So I'm nervous about making any more mistakes - I just can't afford to redo these things.

So, the kitchen. I'm having it painted yellow. These are my top choices at the moment:

I have these countertops:

Getting this for a backsplash:

My faucet and cabinet knobs have this type of finish:

So, I'm struggling big time with picking out a hardwood floor color. I was thinking a brown with no reddishness to it, like this:

Or this:

Am gun shy about going with anything that has any red in it, for some reason. But then I wonder if a little red tinge would be nice, due to the coppery fixtures. Like this:

What do you think I should do about the hardwood floors? I need help, really struggling with this.

Re: Help me - decor content (PIP)

  • I know you don't want red but I love the third and actually think it would go nicely with everything else. The other browns just looked too dull to me with the yellow and the green you've got going on.
  • I also prefer floor number three.

To be honest, I love both the counters and the backsplash separately, but I feel like the backsplash sort of clashes with the other stuff you've chosen.
  • I actually want to like the 3rd floor, because it's by far the most economical choice, and H likes it too. I don't know why I'm so punchy about anything with a hint of red, I feel like it wouldn't go with the yellow? But I could be off on that. This is why I need y'all's help!

As for the backsplash, it actually goes really, really well with the countertops. It's actually not quite as green as it looks in that photo - just found a better photo of the same stuff:

  • Oh, btw - that countertop replaced a pink countertop, so I believe it!
  • Those colors at the top both look orangey to me.  I love the first and third floors.

My sisters house has that backsplash and it's awesome!! It looks amazing. I'd definitely go with it. As for the flooring, I'd stay away from the red tint, I really like the first choice. And if your going for a yellow paint, I do think your choices are more orangey.
  • I like the second one. What color is your cabinets?
  • Cabinets are white.
  • I like the first yellow and second floors.

I am in love with your countertops BTW.

  • Hard for me to tell if my colors are off- the paint swatches look peachy to me.

I think a floor with some reds in it would look pretty with the metal though.
  • Hi! I'm normally a lurker but wanted to say I love your choices. Floor #1 is my favorite. Also, if you find them hard to clean try "Fabuloso". DH had dark floors in his old condo and they were impossible to rinse clean, no matter what he tried. Fabuloso was the only thing that removed the film. It really looks great. Good luck!

  • I  like wall color #2 and floor #1, My kitchen is yellow with white cabinets, so I may be a little bias.

  • I like the floor with the red tones.  It brings warmth.
  • I like the 2nd pic you posted of the back splash, and I love the counter and the 2nd floor, but I think you should consider going a little lighter with the wall colour. You dont have to go super light, but I think its all a little "too much"
  • I think we've just tentatively decided on wall color #2 (it's definitely yellow, not peach or orange). Laura Ashley Cowslip 3.

Anyway, this floor thing is killing me. #1 has been my favorite for a long time. It's by far the most expensive option of the ones I like, and H thinks it's too dark. At this particular moment I'm leaning towards floor #3, despite my shying away from anything reddish. I just noticed that the brown parts of the light fixture are a reddish brown (doesn't look like it in this picture, but the round glass parts are a warm reddish brown:

  • You can always have hardwood floors refinished in the future if you decide you don't love the color. We did that on our floors after a house fire - the old undamaged floors were refinished to match the much newer wood replacing the damaged boards, and you can't tell the difference.

Any of those choices will look good, and I actually prefer the third option.
