• The only thing we were alarmed by was your stupidity.

[QUOTE]Facebook Status Change - HELP! Question: Do you change your status to engaged or wait till you are married and change it then? I am not engaged just yet but will be soon. My soon-to-be Fiance and I have discussed whether or not to change my status on my Facebook page (he does not have one due to his job). I will only invite a handful of the people who are my Facebook Friends so I don't want to offend anyone. However, I know that when I found out about old friends who got married after their wedding had taken place I was hurt. Not because I expected an invite but I thought that because of our relationship, I at least deserved to know. I know people can not afford to invite everyone they ever knew, so I am ok with that. But I would like to avoid hurting my friends feelings as mine have been. In today's world of Twitter and Facebook what is the appropriate thing to do? Thanks!

Are you kidding, diva? Clearly, your friendships aren't as important to these people as they are to you. Typical delusions of grandeur and/or you have an unrealistic view of these friendships.

Change your status... after you've told your family and closest friends. You don't have to call your entire friendlist, but at least make sure your siblings don't find out via facebook, like we did for my BIL's engagement.

  • Just be aware that the moment your Facebook status changes to "engaged," you will see every ad for every wedding vendor in creation. My wife and I got to the point of updating our relationship in the car between ceremony and reception, so that we wouldn't be listed as "engaged" any more. Wink

Oh man, those are so annoying! Facebook is annoying in general. As a teacher, I want to be as private as possible about my FB status. I wanted to get the "relationship status" off my page and I guess I did it wrong because it then posted that I was "single". I had everyone and their mothers (including family) calling saying "OMG, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU AND ROB??" *sigh* yes, I'm going to break my engagement and announce it over FB.

Also, people found out about the engagement before I could call due to FB - R's friend took a pic of the proposal - which was awesome - but then posted it to FB that night and "tagged" us in it. So, naturally, it was posted to our news feeds. lol, oops.

  • I am VERY new to this whole The Knot business....been engaged since April...
But if this is all you have to worry about with an upcoming wedding, girl count your blessings...
Are you even engaged yet? Is that why you have time to worry about something so trivial???

Good luck with whatever you decide....either way, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Oh yeah, and a) you should wait until you're engaged to even start worrying about this and b) only the people you talk to on a weekly basis will even care that you're getting married anyway.
