Help with setting an avatar

Hi all - I am a semi-lurker around here but finally got around to creating an avatar (slow day at work).  I thought I set it as my signature but it doesn't show up next to my posts.  I searched TK for help and all I found was that I'm supposed to "enable my avatar" for it to be displayed with posts, but I don't know how to do that!
