K-1 Visa?

Has anyone done this? We've just gotten the letter telling us to book our appointment, and I have a few questions.

1. Is that the appointment letter I'm supposed to bring with me to the interview? From the sounds of it you'd think it would have the actual appointment time/date on it, but we booked that online. Should I print off the confirmation e-mail too?

2. One of the forms I sent in said it must include my birth certificate, police check, etc., so I sent in the originals with it. But it says I need the originals for my interview as well. Are they going to send that back to me? My police check took 5 weeks, I don't have time to get another, and I really don't want to be screwed. I have copies, but will that be enough for the interview?

3. If anyone did it through the Montreal consulate recently, how long did it take you to actually get your visa and be able to enter?

  • You can try posting this on the international nesties board.  Some of them might have gone through this with their spouses.

<div>I definitely forgot about that board. Thanks =D</div>
  • I'm no help - my only friends who tried to do this visa were told that the consulate had lost their paper and never heard back. Lucky for me, since that's part of the reason they now live in Chile instead of the US :)

<div>Yeah, I don't know anyone who's done it, they've all gotten married first. And the website is so ambiguous and convoluted, I have no idea what to do. Google has failed me in this regard =( </div><div>
</div><div>Also, damn the post views on TN. It's making me twitchy.</div>
  • I would love to have post views over here. WOULD LOVE IT.

<div>It'd be kind of creepy. And then I'd feel obligated to post in every thread I opened.</div>
  • I wouldn't. Not one bit. I'd be all, yeah. That's not interesting enough for me to respond to. Next.

I think that makes me mean, but that's all right.

    YOU ARE TOO NICE! :)

Yeah, pretty much. They need to lay out the exact process somewhere instead of just sending me a letter saying "Hey, do what this site says" and then that site saying nothing. Urgh. I can't even call because everything's effing closed.
  • It isn't a holiday down here, Any.  You can probably call...  but why bother?  I tried that a couple of days ago and some dude just read a government script at me for 40 minutes.  I wanted to confirm my change of address in their system and he asked me a ton of airport-esque "ARE YOU A SEKRIT TERRORIST?!" type questions before telling me that he can neither confirm or deny my address change until 45 days after I put it in.  wtf.

  • Ouch. Brandon's gotten some decent advice, so I'll probably make him call. I'm waiting for my parents to get back so I can check the mail and see if I got something, and then I'll probably start calling.
