Ceremony Timing

I need help trying to figure out the length for processional songs. I have 3 BMs and 3GMs and 3FGs do you think a 5 minutes is enough time for a processional song?

Re: Ceremony Timing

  • How they are walking in and how long your aisle is matters. 5 min sounds long to me But if 1 by one and walking very slow down very long aisle maybe.
  • That's a tough one.  I'm a church organist, and there are so many variables at work here.1)  How long is your aisle?2)  Are they coming in together or separately....example:  BM and GM as a couple or will the GM be up front with the groom and BM come down the aisle separately.3)  Are the flower girls walking in as a little trio of three or each one alone?4)  Are the BM/GM (either alone or in couples) walking the entire length of the aisle before the next one starts, or will one begin when the preceding BM is halfway down? You can see that 5 minutes might be too long, it might be too short. Can you go to the venue and give a little "trial"?  Or at least find out how long the aisle is, mark it out at home, and time yourself walking that length.  Then multiply it by the number of people walking. And then.....after you've done all that:  even with rehearsals, the processional timing NEVER ends up exactly the same on wedding day.  People walk slower, or faster, so we musicians kind of adapt as needed!GL
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Uhoh. Looks like I have some more homework! The aisle is pretty long since it will be outdoors and they have to enter from pretty far back. And the GMs will be walking with the BMs and 2 FGs will be together and the 3rd by herself....I'm not so much worried about it being too long, the dj can just fade the music out but I'm worried it might not be long enough!
