Shower invitations

Im in a friends wedding in June and I KNOW its early for a shower but... Ive been drinking tonight and kind of asked the bride and the maid of honor if I could do the invitations for the shower. I live nearly 4 hours away so I cant really help with much else so I want to do something.

Problem? What the hell goes on a shower invitation? Is it just pretty straight forward or is there certain proticol to this?

I dont even know if they will let me, but just incase I wanna be prepared. Can you help?

Re: Shower invitations

  • Both mine were the old fashioned, fill in the blanks ones with registry inserts.

    I believe it had:

    Hosted by
    Date
    Time
    Location

If I get a bit of motivation, I'll dig it out and look it up for ya.  I'm sure I left something out.

  • Mine said:
please join us for a bridal shower in honor of bombtones.
    date & time
    place

    hosted by bombtones' bridesmaids
    rsvp info

she printed my registry info on that back, which I thought was a nice way of including it
  • I kind of want to design something special on photoshop and make really pretty invitations, because I reall yhave nothing else to do... I feel like a jerk being unable to help with ANYTHING. I know i dont have to but I want to. Any suggestions of what was in yours would be great.
  • For mine, my sister bought the blank invites with little cartoon people and printed on them.  I think they said "MOH and MOB invite you to..."  with date and time and all that.

If you're doing them on photoshop, can you do a photo invite of the bride?

You are such a thoughtful BM! No firing in your future, I'm predicting. ;)

My sister was pretty awesome about my invites, and made them totally about me yet totally appropriate. The front had a picture of the Beatles with little talk balloons like, "[BG] is getting married!" and then a couple song titles that fit in like dialogue. Then the inside had the day, time, location, RSVP and registry info. Since I am graduating soon and love to cook, she said something like "let's help [BG] set up her kitchen and office" to help with gift ideas off the registry. Finally, she planned a really sweet surprise for me and asked everyone in the invite to bring a Christmas ornament to give (either heirloom or new ones), since Christmas is H's and my favorite time of year. It was really well thought out, I think.

So it might help to know what, if anything, you guys would plan for your friend's shower that would be special, or that you might need to prep guests for ahead of time.

  • I think it'd be nice if you could come up with something on photoshop.  It will be a nice way to put your own personal stamp on it.

Something cute you can do is to send a blank recipe card with the invitation and have people fill it in with their favorite recipe and bring it with them to the shower. My friend tried this by handing out recipe cards at my shower but most people had to go home and refer to their recipes and said they'd send them to me in the future (didn't happen).  For my friend's shower I sent them out ahead of time and that worked - and it was a big hit at the shower to see what people came up with.
  • ooooh great ideas i like the recipe thing! I cant wait to start these.
