When did wedding stuff "hit" you?

When did it hit you that "whoa, this is really happening?" We've got almost everything booked, I've found my dress, we've met with our officiant. This afternoon, we're going wedding ring shopping, and for some reason, it's just kind of hit both of us today. Not a scary thing, just...wow. Know what I mean?

Re: When did wedding stuff "hit" you?

  • I know exactly what you mean!! I was all sorts of excited leading up to it (in case you ladies here couldn't tell haha)... but I don't think I honestly had that "hit me" moment until the Friday morning before the wedding.

H and I both had the day off and he left early to head to the town we were getting married in, he had a few things to do. When I kissed him goodbye, turned around and saw the MESS that was my apartment (all night placecard project with my MOH) and realized that the next time I was going to see him, we would be gathering at the church for the rehearsal.... I got "hit." :)

And then I frantically started cleaning the apartment, if that tells you anything. LOL!
  • When we booked the venue, after that it's felt more like work getting everything else taken care of so hopefully that feeling will come back once we've got all this planning business behind us lol.

  • Honestly, it didn't really hit until wedding day, after we had our hair done and we were at Panera Bread getting lunch. Everyone kept checking their phones to look at the radar and talk about wedding stuff. I actually had to get up and go into the bathroom for a few minutes to collect myself and just be alone. But I snapped myself out of it, rejoined the girls and was fine the rest of the day. Since we had a
'first look," I was so excited to walk down the aisle without any nerves. I was so antzy, and was like, "Let's get this going!"
  • The first time it hit me was immediately after getting engaged.  The second time was when I first started trying wedding dresses.  I haven't had it for a while now, but I'm still like 8-9 months out.
  • I'm scared I'm going to cry the entire day of the wedding. Thinking about stuff like walking down the aisle with my dad, saying my vows, all that crap, totally makes me tear up now. I've cried at every single wedding I've ever been to, so I seriously doubt I'll be able to not cry at my own wedding.

  • Uh, maybe 3 weeks ago?

I did a dress fitting 2.5 weeks ago and picked up wedding bands last Saturday and both of those were "whoa" moments.

  • We got our marriage license on Friday morning and I realized it was 3 weeks out... for real...
  • Walking out the doors of the venue to walk down the aisle.  I was kind of shaking and had to remind myself not to lock my knees when I was standing still, haha.  Sometimes I still can't believe it happened and I have to look at the pictures :)

  • I agree, it wasn't really until I was about to walk down the aisle that I realized it was OUR wedding we had been planning. Even getting ready on the day-of I felt kinda like I was getting dressed for something else.

Yep, that was me. I started as soon as the doors opened and I saw everyone. Then I finally got myself together by the end of the ceremony, and when we turned around to leave, I did it again seeing everybody.
  • LC - are you doing a first look? j/w :)

  • it finally "hit" me when I was hanging out with my BMs, we were all dolled up and dressed, and the DOC came back and said they were ready for the BMs to walk down the aisle.

I've been a bridesmaid 5 times before. NOT leaving with them, and the 2 min I had to sit back in the room alone, I really freaked out!  It was really weird!

When I came out of the room and saw the stragglers in they foyer, it was a mix of odd and relief, and then when the sanctuary doors finally opened, and I saw DH at the end of the aisle, I just wanted to cry (good cry) - although I didn't, I was too happy :)

  • Nope, we're not doing a first look. I'm all ridiculous about the not seeing the bride before the ceremony tradition. FI and I will part ways after the RD and not see eachother til the aisle.

  • We were at our dance lessons last night scheduling our last two appointments. I asked if we could wait two weeks so we could practice at home.. We looked at the calendar and realized nope, we can't. That would push the last one to the week of the wedding!!
  • It kind of hit me right away, when I was asking one of my friends to be a bridesmaid.  Then it hit me again the day I ordered my dress.  It's still 10 months away, and I'm sure I'm going to be hit pretttttttty hard some more!!
  • i think it hit me this weekend when I bought my dress....and I am sure it will hit me again....and again

  • I have done a lot of the things like dresses and invitations and deposits that others have considered such big moments and it still hasn't hit me. I think I'm still shocked 4 months later. I'm pretty sure it won't be realy until we can live at our house together and wake up the next morning still next to each other.

It really hit me when we were looking at the list of people who had reserved hotel rooms  from our block so we knew what names to put on the OOT bags.  Tthere was a reservation for "Mr. and Mrs. NewLastName".  At first I thought it was H's parents, then I saw a separate reservation with their first and last names...and it hit me that it was for US, for the honeymoon suite.  That was about 3 days before the wedding.

  • Honestly, it didn't really hit me until I was standing at the back of the church with my grandpa waiting to walk down the aisle.

  • Two days ago! And we're now 11 days out. I was standing in Michael's trying to figure out things for table number cards when it hit me.

  • I know the feeling. We just paid off the rings, dress, chapel, and reception hall and it was like WHAM! Plus I'm filling out my graduation and student teacher paperwork at the same time-- so it's like a DOUBLE WHAM!

  • Umm...I'm 10days away and it didn't hit me until I read this post....and I KNOW I'm going to cry big time, cause I cried just reading the moments that hit all of you!!
  • i had my oh crap moment yesterday when we picked up our marriage license.  we are 15 days out and i vary from freaking out to being insanely happy.  my poor fiance cant keep up with the roller coaster
  • It comes and goes for me. I often say "This time, next year...." and make comparisons to our life now and post-marriage. I say it more cute and jokingly but the reality suddenly strikes me and I just become overwhelmingly happy. FOR example, heading out on my family weekend get-together I said "This time, next year, we can share a room and no one will have anything to say about it!" (we're a little on the traditional side, separate rooms/beds for unmarried couples).

About a month ago I trying on my wedding shoes and dress for a good friend and it struck me then too, when she just stared at me and said with a smile "Dude, you're getting married!" It was so funny, she emphasized it with this happy disbelief, like trying to wrap your head around some awesome break-through discovery.

  • It actuallly hit me pretty early. We're still a little more than a year out, but we went two months ago to put down a deposit and set the date. The whole way there, I felt a mixture of emotions. I was scared, nervous and slightly sick to my stomach. I'm sure once it gets really close, though, it'll hit me all over again.

  • It hits me everyday.  We were engaged In December and haven't made any plans (not even a date), but something makes me tear up everyday.
  • Maybe a little when we were getting our marriage license, but not completely until I was in my dress and waiting with my dad before walking down the aisle.  Before that it really felt like I was just going to someone else's wedding.
  • Just under 9 months away and it hasn't really "hit" me yet...I'm still waiting. I'm excited and I'm planning, i have my dress and I've been going to to bridal fairs and everything. i don't know, it's still kind of surreal to me....
  • My first shower I was like wow this is really happening! when i had my hair and makeup practice, final dress fitting.   Im getting married sept 25th so i am having many moments that i am like it is almost here and i am going to be a mrs.  Kiss
