FSIL queestions....Kinda Long! Sorry!

Okay I need some opinions.
Is it required to ask his sisters to be bridesmaids in our wedding?
I dont have any brothers, only sisters, I have three of them. My own sisters are of course my BM along with 2 very close friends.
He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. All of his brothers are GM along with 2 of his close friends as well.

  • My sister's husband has 3 sisters.  They all stood on his side as "grooms maids".  They wore the same dresses as the bridesmaids but stood up for him on the groom's side during the ceremony.  They were invited to all prewedding festivities but didn't come to the bachelorette b/c they aren't that close to my sister.

  • You don't have to ask them.

I did ask FSIL. She's FIs only sibling.

  • You are under no etiquette obligation to ask anyone to be in your wedding party.

However, only you and your FI will know if not asking them to be in the WP will impact family dynamics.  Would they feel left out or be upset knowing that all of your siblings and your FI's other siblings are in the WP and not them?  Family dynamics are often complicated so that's a call you'll have to make knowing all of the parties involved.
  • H's sister has been a BM in all of her brothers' weddings (H has 3 brothers, one of whom has been married twice).  It's tradition, and there's no way I couldn't have asked her without causing strife.

If your FSILs cannot afford to be BMs, they'll say no.  Pick them if you want, regardless of financial situation.
  • my half sister is in the bridal party (shes 12), but FI's half sisters are not...but since we wanted to include them, we have asked them to be ushers along with 2 of my cousins (so 4 girls total ages 12-18, and someone to oversee them whos is in thier 20's) so they will still coordinate colorwise and have thier names in the program, that way they are still included, without being in the bridal party.
