Accepts with regret/Declined with pleasure

I once saw a photo of an RSVP card worded as such:

[  ] Accepts with pleasure
[  ] Accepts with regret
[  ] Declines with pleasure
[  ] Declines with regret

I found it funny, but I was curious about how others would react.

I also remember seeing a card with a photo next to "accept" with the B&G smiling and a photo next to "decline" with them flipping the camera off. Seems like something that was fun in concept but awkward in practice... My aunt doesn't need to see anyone flipping her the bird!

I'd think it was cute, but I'd worry people would read it too quickly and check the wrong response.

As for the picture, I think it would be funny with just smiling/frowning, but I can't imagine sending a picture of me flipping the bird to 99% of my guest list.

I think it depends on *you.*  If you are silly people and you think your guests would get it, by all means, do it.  But if you have more serious-type guests, I wouldn't do it.

I was somewhat pondering the accepts with regret thing, but then I thought of my unfavorable response to the picture thing. It was just weird, mostly the flipping the bird thing. I would think it was funny if they were fake crying, but I generally reserve flipping the bird for barroom jokes while drinking Budweiser with my guy friends, not a note that I'll be sending to my Aunt Dinah.

I voted cute, but I actually think it depends on the rest of the invitation.  If I got it with your invitation, I would think it was cute.  If I got it with my invitation (pearl lacy border, frilly writing) I would think it was stupid.

I think it was Amoro who did that, and she said most of her guests didn't get it.  I think it would be funny, but many of my guests wouldn't get it either.

it does depend on the vibe of the entire invitation.... most people (especially more traditional folk) won't get it at all. Seems like something that could just be left out really.

It's kinda-sorta funny, but not really appropriate for a wedding where Granny's getting an invitation.

Also, I do want to say that I think it's a tad presumptuous to say "Accepts with pleasure," which is what I think the whole "accepts with regret/declines with pleasure" thing is poking fun at.  And that is why, on our RSVP cards, I simply used "Yes, I/we will attend" and "No, I/we cannot attend."  I felt it was best to just leave emotion out of it altogether.  Maybe I am just weird.

Your invitations are really cute, btw!

I would think it was funny, but I don't think all guests really get it.  Some people seriously lack in the humor department.  And like someone else mentioned, it needs to go with the style of the invite.

As for the pics, I'm with you...a pic with a faux sad face would be more appropriate than the other picture.

I've actually heard that as well! That's why I liked the idea... I've gotten invitations that had the "accepts with pleasure/declines with regret" option, and it did seem a bit presumptuous!

I did this on my repsonse cards, and so far people are responding positively...they think they are funny and reflective of the people who sent the invitation.  I did make a few more generic ones for some people I thought might find it really confusing (ie, my grandmother)

I've never seen one in person, but I cracked up the first time I saw one posted on a wedding board. I think  it works if it's in keeping with the rest of the invitation and the personality of the people issuing it -- I wouldn't do it with a super-formal invitation, but I think it would work with yours.

I dont like the emotions on the RSVP becuase, at least for the last few weddings I've attended, they did not have MY emotion listed.  Accepts with regret and deep reservation.  So basically when I checked Accepts with pleasure, I was lying to the B&G.
