Evenin'

In the hopes that people are around....hello!

I made a cake today and just tasted it and it was pretty good!  It came out a bit lopsided, but overall I am pretty happy!  Now I have more confidence to actually make a cake for H for his birthday.  Last years bday cake was a disaster.

So what is everyone up to?

Re: Evenin'

  • Hi!  I bought a cupcake after lunch and had that for a snack.  It was only okay.  "Strawberry shortcake".  I won't try that flavor again.
  • I'm waiting for 9 pm to come so I can go to sleep.  I'm afraid if I go earlier than that I will wake up too early.  I slept like crap last night.  Stupid jet lag.

Other than that I'm just reading about Swift crashing a wedding and watching Family Guy.. I guess this kind of thing happens to everyone.

  • Lynda: I totally understand!!  I hope you enjoy/get a good night sleep!

Next week I will start the struggle of trying to sleep at a normal time (read not normal but super early) when I start back at work.  I am not looking forward to waking up at 4:30am again.
  • Lynda - how was your trip?  Any pictures?
  • Hi!

I'm drinking beer and hanging out with kittens.  Pepo decided to saunter into our room (how he got the closed door open, I have no idea) and keep me awake for most of the night (mostly trying to bat at my head if I didn't pet him) and occasionally meowing out of boredom.  H had insomnia and thought it was adorable.  I was legitimately exhausted and sleeping, so I was less amused.  However, Pepo is adorable, so I've forgiven him.
  • Mica - it sounds like my night.  Chef D is normally out cold when we go to bed.  Last night he was running round until after 1:30am.   I kept waking up to him eating a bone on my chest.   He is never like that.  He's snoring about 3 minutes after coming to bed.

Loopy - the trip was fun. However it's now confirmed DH does not do well in Europe.  He loves the food.  But all the walking around, visiting old buildings just is not his thing.   Hanging out by the pool or beach is more of his type of vacation.  Which is fine.

I'm already dreading China with him.  I'm going to have to come up with some good plans.

We have pictures, but they are still on the camera.  Which DH has somewhere.

  • China sounds exciting.  Can you plan enough down time for him and still feel like you made your trip somewhere like that worth your while as a compromise, or is it more of a one trip my way, one trip your way kind of situation?  H loves camping/hiking vacations and I like beach/pool vacations so we have often tried to do one of each kind every year.
  • I think I have the flu. Not sure. Just icky, boiling stomach all day and kind of lethargic. Have only eaten things like toast and noodles and Sprite.

Besides that, my kiddos had great first days of school and all is well at Chez Wally!

  • Yuck Wally - feel better soon.
  • Wally: hopefully you just had first day of school jitters and not the flu ;)

I am currently enjoying an Atwater Brewery Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale...it is DELICIOUS!
  • Sorry you feel crappy, Wally!

I had a nice quick day at work today, and got to the pool after work, which was deserted and awesome.  Now I'm relaxing while H plays video games.  He's about to go get get me chocolate, because he's awesome.

  • Poor Wally.

Lynda -- where are you going in China?  Could you leave H by the hotel pool and do the exploring by yourself?  H isn't a great traveller, so sometimes I will give him a day (or part of a day) off and do my own thing.  I know that's harder in Asia, unless you know people there.
  • LOL, thanks you guys. I think I will live and everything. : ) Probaby do me good to not eat much for day or two!

Wow, China would be amazing. And J, your chocolate-fetching H is amazing.

  • I want a strawberry cupcake.  Maybe I'll try making them this weekend.  (Sorry, just read Loopy's post and got a craving.)
  • This one was better in theory than execution.  I LOVE their chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes.  Next time I'll stick with tried and true.
  • Hope you feel better Wally

My parents are moving to Shanghai in Jan.  We are going next year or 2014. Not sure yet.   Lucky for me I've been to Beijing and Xian before.   So I can plan stuff around what he wants.

BUT my parents are what I call super-planners.  For example,  my mom sends out an email around labor day asking for xmas lists.   4 months before family vacations we get emails on what we want for dinner.   It drives DH crazy.   Which in turns drives me crazy.

I like giving DH a pass, but he hates to be alone.  For example one day in Austria I said I was going to do some sight-seeing.   By the time I finished my shower he was ready to go with me because he didn't have any other playmates.

Maybe I should suggest his BF to come along.  His wife and I can go sight-seeing and the boys can go golfing.     Not sure how mom and dad would feel about that.

  • I'm taking a break from reading Game of Thrones bk 4, eating the last of the key lime pie I made for company the other night, and making a mental to do list. Hoping that by doing that now, I won't be tossing and turning later.

  • Mica, your kitten sounds adorable. One of our cats loves to sleep with us. Sometimes, I'll wake up in the middle of the night with my head off the pillow because he's decided to take it over.

Lynda, glad to hear you had a great trip. Where in Europe did you  And what was your favorite location?

We went to a wedding Vienna.  It was nice.

My favorite part was going to a winery up in the hills over looking Vienna. We were with the couple and other friends the day after the wedding.   It was just prefect.  Good food, wine, views, company and then boom.....fireworks.  There was a wedding at the location that had fireworks.

I've been to Europe a bunch of times, but never Eastern Europe.  A lot of those were 15-25 years ago, so things have changed.  For example, when I went to Germany there was and East and West.   (I feel old now)

  • J&K - how was your first week back.  Are you getting caught up?
  • My parents are the same way.  They were asking for restaurant choices months before our trip out.

It's actually been quite crappy.  I'm trying to get my school year schedule done, which is stressing me out, and I've had 3 crises this week.  WELCOME BACK!  Ha.  Oh well, it's almost over :)

  • I am the uber planner (I get it from my father).  I was trying to plan a menu like a month and a half before we went on vacation with friends.  H humors me most of the time.
  • Sorry you came back to crises.  Isn't that usually how it goes though?  One more day :).  I get to work tomorrow morning and then get paid to go to the company picnic tomorrow afternoon.  Woot!!  Earn money to play games?  I'm down with that :).

My parents do this too.  My mom, actually.  In high school, she'd be asking me about homecoming dance plans like, the second week of school.

  • My poor puppy.  H and his buddy went backpacking so they spent all of yesterday packing up and getting organized, and they left this morning.  They didn't take the dog (she's just not in shape for that kind of a trip) and she's been laying in the back hallway staring at the door to the garage.  I feel so bad for her. :(

<div>I assume she can't figure out how to put a picture in there.  Or doesn't want to.</div>
  • Awww, poor pup!

That's what I assumed too, Loopy, but I just don't get why that needs to be there.  I don't know why it bugs me so much--I think it's fairly irrational, but it just does.
