I can't decide! (Photographers)

This is a cross-post from the Photo/Video board because it is super dead over there...

I am torn between 2 photographers.

A) My sister's wedding photographer.  She was really awesome and has beautiful albums.  I trust her and am comfortable with her.  Her package has a bonus of including Thank-you cards.

B) A Photographer that was recommended to me by a friend of a friend (she hasn't used him yet, but is booked with him).  His pictures are really nice and his albums are ok.  They look a little cheaper than A's albums, but are still nice.  For a price of only $600 more than A, his package includes an engagement session (with guestbook) and videography.

I'm torn because I <3<3<3 A's albums, but can't find a videographer that would be cheap enough to make the difference between the 2 packages minimal.

Would you pay more money to have photos you love and get the cheapest videographer you can find, or would you go with the package that includes everything and is still nice, but not your favorite?

  • I can't click polls at work.

I would go with A. To me picture quality is more important that a videographer. The pictures are going most likely going to be displayed and seen alot more than your wedding video.

  • I didn't want a videographer, as I would never watch a wedding video, so the choice would be easy for me. Plus, you love A's pics more.
  • I vote C. Go with A and have no videographer. Will you really watch your ceremony every day/weekend etc and cry (see previous post by Amoro). In your heart, you know what you want to do, but your brain is seeing $$. Go with your gut/heart and you won't be let down.

    FOR SALE!!.

  • you might watch the video immediately when you get it, and *maybe* on anniversaries, and never again. your pictures are displayed throughout the home.

go with A. awesome pictures that are still within your budget trump okay pictures that are cheap every time. besides, if it's your sister's photographer, they already know your family and trust me, having the photographer familiar with your family is very very nice.

  • I picked B, but it's dependent on clarification.  It sounded like the pictures of A and B were both great, you just don't like B's albums.  If that is the case, you can easily make your own album or photobook.  I don't watch my video every day (or close to it), but I am glad I spent the money on the videographer.

    Hahaha...definitely.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

But seriously, I doubt I would watch it more than once a year, so you guys are right.  Especially because I was hoping to have the photographer take a few artsy non-people pictures that we could blow up on large canvas and display on our currently very bare walls.  That way it would be sentimental to us without being all pictures of us everywhere.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind!
  • I think the video is actually really important. More so than the photos, for me.
