Bedding/towels (WR)

We have to finish our registries tomorrow.  We're done with everything but bedding and towels.  So, a few random questions.

1.  We have our bed and we have a twin guest bed.   Both have crappy Target bedding on them.  Would it be weird/inappropriate to register for bedding for both of them?

2.  How the heck do you know what is a good towel/set of sheets?  Every towel I've had has either turned to cardboard or lost color pretty quickly, but they've all been cheap.  I want ones...that won't do that.  Similarly, what kinds of sheets won't wear out/can stand the occasional cat clawing?  Halp?

3.  Pillows?  Do nice pillows make a difference?  We have cheap ones that get flat pretty quickly.  Do nice ones stay floofy?

Clearly I am clueless about this.  Help me.

Re: Bedding/towels (WR)

  • 1.  No, I've seen it before and wouldn't think it's odd at all.

    2.  I have no idea.  We picked by price range, honestly.  We got the Wamsutta Hotel ones (that I think BBB is getting rid of carrrying) and they have been wonderful so far.

    3.  I have been using down pillows for years because I like being able to shape them.  H likes flat pillows better.  I do know that you can machine wash nice down pillows, though, which makes me happy.  Pillows get so grody fast.

  • 1. I say register for both. They are both household items.
    2. That's a good question. I buy all brands of towels, and they hold up pretty well, but I change them out every 2-3 years. How are you washing them? Try a softener change.
    3. I just got foam pillows and I LOVE them. My back and neck feel so much better with all the support. I suggest the IKEA foam pillow, in firm. Heavenly.
  • The person at BBB told us not to use fabric softener with towels because it negatively affects the absorbancy, so use dryer sheets instead.  I hadn't heard that before, but it does kinda make sense.

  • Hmm.  We are definitely too lazy for fabric softener.

We have foam pillows which we're definitely keeping, but we both are big pillow whores and need another 1-2 pillows on top of that, plus at least one or two for guests.

    Thanks ladies!

  • 1.  We have our bed and we have a twin guest bed.   Both have crappy Target bedding on them.  Would it be weird/inappropriate to register for bedding for both of them? I sure hope not because we just registered for bedding as well. FI still has his craptastic bachelor comforter on his bed (think shiny black, charcoal and silver... *shudder*) and I have my "fresh out of college cheap duvet cover" on my bed. which won't fit FI's bed.

Halp? I just felt all the towels in the colors I wanted, and picked the ones that felt the softest and plushest.  I was also told not to use softener with them, they don't absorb water. I've noticed a difference.

    3.  Pillows?  Do nice pillows make a difference?  We have cheap ones that get flat pretty quickly.  Do nice ones stay floofy? My mom spends $50 per pillow at her house, that she gets at like Macy's. I always sleep so well on her pillows because they're just fvcking awesome. she usually gets down, I think. down lasts longer, I still have the same down pillow I've used since freshman year of high school. I just registered for $40 pillows. hope I get them. they're hypoallergenic (I have a bad dust allergy).

  • 1. I wouldn't think it was weird.

    2.  Towels, I don't really know. I'd just pick whatever is softest. I've heard Macys has some good towels.

Bedding, I like my higher thread count sheets from Target. They are so soft.

    3. I only like down pillows, they stay poofy.
  • My mom felt wool in 4-H as a kid and liked the Wamsutta towels from BBB best.

  • I don't have strong opinions about your other questions (don't really think registering for your bedding is a problem) but my mom would probably just say that you might as well just buy $7 pillows at Target and replace them every time they get flat, because through use your pillows get filled with mold, dead skin and dust mite poop, and it's good to swap that crap out every once in a while.

I say this, and yet I have had the same crummy pillows for four years. But I don't do a lot of things that are probably good for me.
