Year End Bonus

A co-worker and I were talking about a year-end bonus last night and she seemed to feel that we don't get enough of a bonus.  Generally, the company gives one week pay plus some years there is a premium paid if the company did well that year.  I think this is generous, but this is the only company I've ever worked for so maybe I'm wrong.  I'm wondering for those of you who work full time, does your company pay a bonus?

Re: Year End Bonus

  • Well, we haven't gotten raises in the past 2 years, but we (and I only know about my department's admins, I don't know about other departments or positions) get a flat $500 Christmas bonus no matter your salary as long as you've been here a full year.  The first year I got $250 because I only worked a partial year.

  • I get a very fetching fleece jacket with the company logo.

I think your company is being way more than generous.

    I haven't gotten raises in 3 years and don't get a bonus.

I do get 4 weeks of vacation, 2 personal days and 10 sick days a year though - so I'm sticking it out for now.
  • I voted "no". Usually my boss gives everyone a Christmas card with $100 in it. We pay huge bonuses throughout the year though.

  • Yes... we get 1 wk pay if you have been here over a year.. if you haven't its allocated.

  • I want to work for that company.

No bonuses here. The most I have ever received was $150 a few years ago.
  • Apparently my year-end bonus is to grade 50 final exams by Sunday. It's making my soul bleed a little bit.
  • I got free lunch the other day, does that count? I also get a week and a half for Christmas (hopefully), which is nice.

  • Partners make bonuses here.  We partner-track people smile and still have to pay a share of the holiday party for our minions as well as buy gifts for our staff.  Meh.  Last year I was paid out for vacation time I didn't take, but this year I used all my vacation time up.
  • your coworker should be happy she even has a job.
  • I don't. I got one at my first job and that was it. My husband gets about a 10% bonus, but it's tied to how well his company does financially. The first year he was there they didn't get anything and last year they got a partial bonus. He said he'll be angry if he doesn't get it all this year because, although his company was bought out, they're doing really well, so he thinks the same structure is still in place. Of course, they take taxes out of it.

  • Manda - I bet that having you there at work is a bonus for at least some of your co-workers.  You crack me up.

  • No bonuses for me. I did get a raise this year, but because I flat-out asked for one.
I'm the only employee for a sole practitioner though, so normal business practices don't always apply.
Pay sucks, but he's really generous and flexible with my time off, so that's better for me right now.  I probably get more paid time off than a lot of people.
  • Calypso - I completely agree.  I'm thankful to have my job and if we didn't get any bonus at all, I'd be okay with that.

  • We get bonuses, but it's not a set amount. It depends on your department, how long you've been there, how well sales were that year, etc. I think last year it was $300 or so, but I don't know about other teams. We haven't gotten ours yet this year, and probably won't until next Thursday.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Year End Bonus : See, I hate that attitude. So it's cool for companies to shiit all over their employees because, "hey, you're lucky to have a job"? They know people probably won't quit or find something else. What a great work environment. (I know, I work in a place where we had a pay freeze for 2 years and had half our holidays and vacation taken away.) Not that NOT getting a bonus = shiity work environment, but workers should have dignity and standards.

I'm really picking up what you're putting down today, Mery.

(I hope this doesn't double post, I got a weird error)

  • My company does a bonus but it's paid in March, and is usually three percent or so of our gross salary (don't really know off the top of my head) and is dependent on our company's performance for the year.

  • We get a few hundred dollars.  Which is nice, don't get me wrong.  But I know this place is making a shitton of money.  Some appreciation would be nice.

  • We got an e-mail yesterday telling us we all had the money in our bank accounts. They give it to us before the holidays so people can use it to buy gifts or food or whatever, which is nice.

[QUOTE]Can I pick the I don't know option. I have been here since May and my co-worker says they used to but he doesn't think it's happening this year. If it is, they haven't told us yet. Do any of you find out in advance that you are or aren't getting something or is it like the Griswalds and you just wait to see if it happens?

     <div>
</div><div>We know in advance, but it's actually company policy that they do the quarterly bonuses, and the quarter ends (for us) in mid November. I work for a small used bookstore chain, and we've actually been lucky enough to open more stores this year. I know we are incredibly lucky an I'm glad to be there. The amount of the bonus changes for each quarter, depending on how well we did for the quarter. This quarter went pretty well, so it was a bigger check. Last quarter, we got less than $100. So it fluctuates. The Christmas bonus is a given, though.</div>

  • I am also a public school teacher and my bonus consisted of a $5 Borders gift card (which I think was donated) and a pen from Human Resources.

  • When our raises are communicated, they tell us the amount to expect for a bonus.

  • Not only do we not get bonuses, but we also haven't received raises in the last 3 years and our executive director announced at our agency meeting last month that there is a very high possibility of pay cuts or furloughs.  I think we find out for sure at our December agency meeting next Monday.

She cancelled 2 our of our 3 annual fundraisers this year, and the one that did happen we only did part of what was originally planned.  She also didn't keep the apartment building we own up to codes and we got fined out the ass after the inspection as a result. Then she had the balls to blame my program for the deficit because "we're not billing enough".  I'm doing the best I can, but it's hard when she keeps throwing non-billable tasks at me to do (that aren't really my job to begin with) and then complaining that I don't spend enough time billing.  But if I don't finish the non-billable stuff, she gets mad about that too. This is exactly why 4 people have left my position in the past 15 months, but of course she can't see that.

Sorry...I apparently have a lot of pent up anger that needed to be released ...

  • Our Christmas bonus is a $35 gift card to the company store (I work for the corp office of a chain of retail stores). But throughout the year, we get quarterly bonuses of a few hundred dollars each.

Besides the announcement today at lunch, I usually don't know how much, if at all, I'm getting until I get the email saying it's been deposited into my account.
