SIL called the police on H's brother (they are married and have a 4-month-old together), because she 'feared for her life.' They were arguing, he said some mean things, one of which included saying she'd be 6 feet under if something happened to his dog (she forgot to buy dog food, so she was making some based on something she found on the internet). She didn't call the police right away. She packed up her things that evening and left with the baby when her H was taking a shower. Then at some point called the police on him, and he went to jail (for verbal assault). He had to stay for 24 hours, now he's out, and can't contact his wife for 5 days (she is staying in another town with her parents and the baby). And he got a $400 fine.
This couple obviously has some issues to work out. But I can't think of anything H could say to me that would make me call the police on him. The only situation I could possibly see calling the police for is if he was on a violent rampage, breaking things in the house and attacking me. I guess I see putting my husband in jail as an absolute last resort.
Do you think SIL was right to call the police? Would you ever call the police on your husband?
