Good Morning!!

How is everyone?

I'm beat.  Working is killing me.  I have 3 more days of a 6 day stretch to work (my Tuesday day off was cancelled), then I get one day off then I'm on for 5 in a row.

These guests are exhausting and I miss my husband.  It will be over soon and then our normal guests will return.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Good Morning!!

  • Good morning, Lynda! I'm great. I've got a full dayof organizing ahead of me. I have to find homes for all of our new stuff. And I've got to take down the tree. I'm sure at some point, Ben and I will be playing with his Easy Bake Oven. The good news is that it means that I won't leave the house, so I don't have to put make up on or do my hair.

So sorry about your shitty guests. What is it about them that is different than your normal ones?
  • I loved my easy bake oven.  I'm sure they have come a long way in 30 years  LOL

They are not shitty as much as needy.   Normally you would have one or 2 guests with food issue.  This week 20.  You would have 1 or 2 guests who need a little more attention.  This week everyone wants all your attention.

normally people travel in groups of 2 or 4.  This week groups of 10+.  We are getting entire neighborhoods.

We are working harder, but they guests are not tipping well.   We are not allowed to autograt.  Larger families do not tip the normal percentage that a couple would.

  • Wow, that really does suck. I always tip more around the holidays because I'm just really appreciative that someone is willing to work on the days before and after Christmas.
  • It does not have much to do with working around the holiday.

It's just that large groups regardless of the time of year do not tip as much as if they are a couple.  It's a proven fact and that is why restaurants auto-grat parties of 8 or more.    We are not allowed to do that.

Another thing is a lot of parents do not tip for the kids.   It's weird, but we will work our butts off on the kid priate trips with a ton of kids.  but will only make half of what we would on an adult only trip where we do a minimum amount of work.

It's funny how people are when it comes to tipping.

  • Good morning, ladies. DH and I are back from my parents' house and it's wonderful to be home. I love my family, but I've realized I have about a 2 days max at their house.

Did we get any fun "OMG he propooooooooosed on Christmas Eeeeeeeeeve!!!1!!!!1!!" brides?

Not so far. Maybe on newly engaged? I think (hope) it's a bit early for the beebees to be pondering etiquette questions.
  • Ah, good point. I checked proposals - nothing new in terms of proposals just yet. they'll be here soon enough, I'm sure.

  • Cew, how did you fair as far as the ice storm? My FIL who lives in Boone lost power Christmas day. Yucko!
  • Hello, I dont think anyone is around anymore. I am waiting for my dad to arrive so we can "exchange gifts", ie I give them their gifts and I most likely get nothing. Im wearing the new coral red sweater I bought yesterday and I feel quite sassy in it, red makes me feel sassy.
  • Morning, Nebb! That's pretty shitty about the gift "exchange." I'm sure you look quite sassy in your new red sweater.

How is the job hunt going?
  • Job hunt is slow, but I think its just the time of year. I found 4 decent jobs to apply to lastnight so I was busy working on that. I feel bad admitting it but considering my husbands income is enough for us to get by on right now, ive decided to be picky with what I apply to. I want a GOOD job, not just some crappy job. I feel like a jerk saying that but I dont want to be miserable just for a paycheque again, I did that for way too long.
  • Don't feel guilty about that, Nebb. If you guys can get by on only your husband's income, you should definitely hold out for a job you love. Everyone deserves a job they love. I've only worked for a year at a job that I hated, and it was the longest year of my life.

We were fine. It's rained a shitton and we had to drive for about 3 hours in the downpour, but at least it was just rain. I didn't realize Boone got ice. Being without power in the winter is no fun at all.

I think we did get one OMG bride. She posted in one of the Merry Christmas threads. Nothing major, but there was a complete lack of capitalization that kind of made me want to smash Christmas ornaments.
  • Morning everyone.  I'm sitting here watching Pre-game stuff and debating whether or not I'm going to work today.  I know I should, but I really want a day off.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • You  need a day off! I'm ordering you not to work.
  • Good morning!

I'm doing well today. DH and I are thinking of heading to Annapolis for a few hours just for fun. I've never been there and have always wanted to go, and it's really nice outside so we'll see.

I agree with Cew. Sounds like you need a day off right now!
