Pet Hates

My current pet hate: people/websites that spout ridiculous pseudoscience claiming that they can cure cancer/type 1 diabetes/any chronic illness with a simple, natural solution... I don't understand how anyone can actually buy into this ridiculousness. Do you not think that if there was a cure for cancer out there that 1) all scientists in the field would be interested to test it, write on it and tell the world about it, and 2) all pharmaceutical companies in the field would be interested to harvest this cure to sell and make money? It makes me angry that ill people and their families are mislead for the sake of promoting an ideology that clearly doesn't have the extent of benefits that you're suggesting (and usually comes attached with a price tag in addition to false promises).

I agree with you Sun.  It's ridiiiiiculous!

My current pet hate:  How everyone says that something "isn't their business" so you just stand back and let something happen that you know is wrong.  So frustrating.

My minor pet hate: when I pay for something and I put the items and money on the cashier's hand, and then they put the change on the counter.

I've never heard the phrase "pet hate" before. I've heard "pet peeve."

Mine would be when people put their dogs in the back of an open pick up truck. What happens if you wreck? A lot of shelters have dogs with broken legs because the got hurt from being in the back of a truck.

The miracle cures get me too. My mom is big into holistic healing and while I agree that some works well, it kills me that she pays almost $1200 a month on therapy that doesn't have an immediate result...and that the only things that could be medically tested were proven wrong (my dog and her need for a root canal).

And yes about dogs in the back. If a dog jumps out of a truck and it's going 35 they will probably not get up again. One of my friends was tramatized for life when she was driving behind a truck with a lab tied in the back. The lab jumped out, the chain stopped it about 1' above the ground and the truck dragged him for a good mile before her frantic honking made him stop. By then the damage was done and the dog was gone.

My pet peeve is people who refuse to use their blinkers or go the speed limit. Cars give us blinkers to communicate, so use them. Don't get all pissy that people won't let you cross over into their lane when you have no blinker on. We think you're just going slow and being an asss.

I'm extremely late to this thread, but this makes me laugh.  I can't believe that people actually fall for those pictures.  Same for the exercise equipment infomercials that promise a 6-pack in 14 days or whatever. I seriously question the judgement/sanity of anyone who believes that.

I thought I was going to have to post something I hate about my pet when I read the title..lol.

Anyway, it really bothers me when someone drops something in a public place and then doesn't bother to pick it back up. Really, I just saw you drop that fork on the ground and then step over it. You are lazy.

Sun, you might like this one. When people spout about psychology things that they 'heard somewhere' or 'my cousin's friend's girlfriend' said. My friend had a guy over my house that one of the first things he said was "# of people die from killing themselves when taking anti depressants a year". I'm like, "listen, fvcktard, a lot more people kill themselves because they dont get help, you never went to college, and I'm getting a masters in psychology, dont lecture me, asshole"

But I'm drinking and irrationally angry

Yeah Jessjo, that bothers me, too. Much like the 'scientists are only motivated by money' conspiracy theories that strangely seem to be held only by those who know nothing at all about science. I'm sure that each and every intelligent person motivated to become a doctor/researcher/health professional etc has been mislead and persuaded by pharmaceutical companies to make them some money. That just makes so much sense!

The only one I can come up with right now is the misuse of "her" for "she." Strangely, I never see it the other way around.
