save the dates and invitation

I was wondering what the current trend is on the save the date cards and the invitations.  Am I expected to handwrite the addresses on the envelopes for both of them.  I'm just between a rock and a hard space on that issue.  I don't think it's that big of a deal to print them but my mom thinks it's very important to have them handwritten.
Thanks!

Re: save the dates and invitation

  • I printed both of mine in very nice fonts.

  • If you're having a small wedding-- that's what were having-- I wouldn't worry about save the dates-- we've talk to everyone coming to ours, so they know the date, plus I have random countdowns on my FB page. I think you can print the STD-- my fiancé's sister did that, and then handwrite the address on the envelope-- which is traditional. However, if your handwriting-- like my--- is very sloppy and illegible, no matter how hard a try-- see if you can print in a pretty handwriting font.

  • omg I had no idea lables/printing was a faux pau until now. I was planning on one or the other since FI and I both have atrocious handwriting

  • printing is not so bad, but labels just make it look like a peice of junkmail.

But after saying that...wraparound labels that tie into the theme and design of your invitation are perfectly fine.  The "bad" labels are the Avery 500 to a box kind.

  • Handwritten for both is best, but if you can't do it for everything, then print the STD addresses and do the handwriting/calligraphy for the formal invitations.
  • You can run them through the printer or use labels that coordinate with the invitations/STDs.  As long as they aren't plain white office labels that look like junk mail, printing or labels are becoming more common and are fine.

  • One option if you like the look of handwritten invitations but have bad handwriting:

Print the address on the envelopes in a pretty font (www.dafont.com has lots of free ones) very close to the color of the envelopes. Then, trace over with either a calligraphy pen or gel pen, in a contrasting color.
