Distance from ceremony to reception?

How far can my reception site be from  my ceremony?

Re: Distance from ceremony to reception?

  • How far are you thinking?
Is the wedding oot for most guest?
  • Within a 20 minute drive is best, although up to 30 minutes is tolerable - just be sure to confirm what traffic is like at that time of day, on that day of the week and make sure there are no seasonal abnormalities to consider.

For example - a 5 minute drive in Panama City Beach in November is a 2 hour ordeal in March, due to Spring Break.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • I'd try to keep it to half an hour so so
  • I'd say 30 minutes should be the maximum. Any more than that, and you should think about hiring shuttles to transport guests between venues, IMO.
  • It really depends. If I was a really close friend I would drive up to an hour, but anyone else I would not be too happy with more then half an hour.
  • I would say 30 min max. But also take in to account how long travel time will be. In DC, a 10 mile drive can be up to an hour, depending on time of day, season, etc. Just look into the logistics and make sure it won't be too much of a hassle to get from one place to another. Good luck!
  • Ditto PPs.  I'd keep it to 30 minutes max but that should be calculated for realistic conditions.  DH and I considered a place that was 30 minutes away from our ceremony venue but in summer traffic the time could have doubled.
