Tan Lines

Am looking for experience in covering tan lines.  My dress is a halter style and I have terrible tan lines on my back.  Any ideas on how to best conceal the lines?  My wedding is months away and am thinking that I will need to go to a tanning bed to smooth out my skin color, but I don't like the idea of tanning beds.  Thoughts?

Re: Tan Lines

  • How many months away? My tan lines generally fade after about two months.

  • I think as long as you don't over-do it in the tanning bed, then you should be fine.
  • Rather than going to a tanning bed, I would find a reputable airbrush tan place that could fill in the lines by hand if they're still there right before the wedding.

Not sure how bad your tan lines are, but I have BAD farmers tan year round (shoulders are completely a different shade than my arms) and that Jergens natural glow stuff is working out pretty well for me. I just use it where I need to even out my skin tone -- shoulders and back mostly.

  • If it's months away, they'll probably fade.  But please don't go to a tanning bed.

  • I got a nice burn on my chest and right arm yesterday (I know), but with my wedding 4 months away, I'll be counting on long shirts and sunscreen to take care of it.

  • Extra exfoliation may help the tan fade faster, and then you can go to the airbrush place if it's still obvious closer to the wedding.  Def don't do the tanning salon!
  • I agree with PPs on the airbrush idea...

Another idea... since you have time. The next time you lay out in the sun... put a good strong SPF lotion (50+) on the areas that's already dark enough... and put a tan enhancing lotion (Hawiian Tropic makes one that's still SPF 15) on the areas that you need to darken. I've done that before to get rid of tan lines, but it doesn't always work right away.

That also depends on your skin and how easily you burn. I can get away with 15 all year without burning, but my brother needs at least 50 and even then he still burns easily.
  • Not sure if these work or not but I just read about them in InStyle magazine this month.  It's an easy pen-type applicator to cover up tan lines.

  • Thanks, everyone, for all the advice.  I think I'm going to try a combination of them all.  We're going to the beach for July 4th and then maybe one weekend in August.  I'm going to try to take care of it in the sun first.  Then I'll do the airbrush (I totally forgot about that as an option) if any lines are still visible.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
