In Response to Re: Seriously guys : Sometimes I feel the same, sitting here wondering why I'm still at this desk. Part of it is the health coverage, since I can't get covered on my own due to a preexisting condition. I'm so tired of our department being the dumping grounds for the entire company. Ha, maybe that's why I was more sensitive than usual in the MC thread. The past 2 weeks has been nothing but how terrible we are and how we should be ashamed of our production numbers.
In Response to Re: Seriously guys : Honestly, and maybe this is just a pipe dream on my part, I think it will be (and not just medicinal, just across the board legal) in the next 50 years. People have got to take their heads out of the sand about it, really. I remember being taught that there was no difference in pot and say, cocaine. They were all drugs and drugs are bad, mmmmkay? And that's just a ridiculous way to educate children about it. It's completely inaccurate.
    Posted by laurenclaire1386
I completely agree with you. I voted for making it legal. Not because I do it (I've never liked it - it makes me want to eat some doritos and go to sleep, WTF) but because why do I care if OTHER people want to do it? It's not like people prostitute themselves for pot money. Or blow up their houses while growing it. Or OD on it. It's really no worse for you than tobacco. Possibly less so, since most people dont' smoke pot at the rate they'd smoke cigarettes.

Plus, if it was legalized, the price would come down, even with the taxes they'd slap on it. And lots of chiefs of police and the like actually supported it so they wouldn't have to waste manpower and money on tracking down pot violations and prosecuting them. Yet, 56% or so voted against it, even without a well-funded "no on 19" campaign. I don't get it.

Eye to eye. What amazes me is the amount of resources (both monetary and human) that are spent to eradicate what is essentially, a harmless substance. I had a bunch of overdue traffic crap to take care of a while back, and I actually had to appear in front of a judge to get it taken care of and I was one of the last to be called. I'd say at least 3/4 of the people who went before me were there for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. I realize the parish/state makes money on the fines they charge those people, but I think they money they'd save combined with the taxes they could impose on it would be much more financially sensible.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I wouldn't put up with it from H either, but it's a job and jobs are hard to come by here, especially with my degree.

Sorry about your lecture. That sucks. Does he really punch desks and walls? My conclusion is that bosses have no idea what their employees actually do, which in turn leads to mass confusion and unsatisfed workers.

Actually, the Governator made possession of small amounts of marajuana something like a tiny fine (I can't remember what it's called) rather than a misdemeanor, already. CA jails are super overcrowded, yo. (We actually have more death row inmates than any other state, can you believe that?)

  • 17 DAYS MANDY!!!! I think I've got just about all my loose ends tied up, except for sound equipment for the ceremony. Band can't do it, venue has no sound equipment. Luckily, our core group of friends used to all be in a band together, so between them, I think we'll be able to cobble together enough sound equipment for the ceremony. Going to pick up my dress tomorrow. And then I'm gonna just show up and pray for the best.

I love Zippity's comment about how the REAL suicide was possibly MISSCOURTNEY's Knot career.

Edit: some communities I've been in (like communities about women's issues) will say something like, "Possible emotional trigger" in the subject line so people who have been affected by sexual assault or suicide and may have certain triggers and issues with that can avoid reading the posts.

  • Since the MC original post was gone I had to read the entire first page before I realized noone had committed suicide.  I'm really glad I at least read that far because I was trying to put the pieces together and sad that a kid did that.  I'm so glad they lived.

Aah! 17 days! That's crazy! I found out the day before the ceremony that the sound equipment at the venue was broken so I had a friend call around and he ended up finding a popular local guy to come play acoustic before the wedding and then, because he didn't think he played long enough before the wedding and because he was having fun, he hung around for 2 hours and entertained the people who hung outside instead of coming in the reception room. Lucky things seem to happen around weddings - I hope you get lucky too!!

Congrats!! I can't wait to see your pictures...I LOVE your dress.
In Response to Re: Seriously guys : And now for something completely different: My favorite thing about th second MISSCOURTNEY thread was the title. People always say, "Warn us if there's something bad in your post" on SB. And she was all THIS POST TALKS ABOUT SUICIDE! right in the title. I don't think the warning needs to be *quite* so specific, but, uh, thanks. I just found it funny.
    Posted by msmerymac
I think she made it specific because it's been requested before (more than once) on SB by others that any posts that are suicide related have a warning. Some are sensitive to that and wanted a disclaimer so they wouldn't click into that post.

But after she edited it, she probably should have changed the thread title.

Yes ma'am. Outdoor ceremony, then the reception is in a big reception hall on site. I'm really hoping Louisiana weather acts like it normally does and it'll be about 65 during the ceremony. But you never know.
